The News Release 10.07.03

So, I’m trying to watch this between flipping channels between the ALDS Game 5, Monday Night Football, and Raw. Luckily, nothing good is happening on Raw, so it’s easy.

However, I’m glancing through the articles on Yahoo News, and there just isn’t that much going on in the world of music for the second week running.

Rolling Stones say FU to Retailers

Rolling Stone has entered into an exclusive contract with Best Buy to sell their upcoming DVD, Four Flicks. The band snubbed the rest of the US Record stores by allowing Best Buy exclusive sales to the 29.99 DVD for the entire Holiday shopping season.

The giants (Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy), who traditionally offer music CDs at a loss with the assumption that it will bring people in to buy other things, account for about 55% of the music sales nationwide.

Though not the first band to do this, it is arguably one of the bigger coups that any of the giants have gotten… previously, Best Buy had an exclusive two-week window on for U2’s recent concert DVD and a one month window on the recently released Eagle’s DVD set.

However, many of these deals come with a price. For instance, some retailers, following the U2 incident, turned around and charged the label double for any of the OTHER musicians they sold.

However, so long as Tower Records and their competitors continue to sell CDs at more than twice the price of the big box stores, the trend will continue. The companies are flirting with bankruptcy for a reason.

Old and Busted: $19.99 CDs.
New Hotness: $9.99 CDs.

You do the math.

AMA Acts

The 31st annual American Music Awards have added more acts to their lineup of performers for their November 16th ceremony. You can tune in on November 16th to see Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Ricky Martin (?), Outkast, Ruben, and Clay… joining the talent of Ashanti, Hilary Duff, Alan Jackson, Metallica and Brittney.

The awards feature multiple nominees Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Ashanti (what the f*ck… has anyone noticed this girl hasn’t got an iota of talent? She can’t even f*cking sing. She must be giving someone some amazing head), R. Kelly (watch out Hillary!), Beyoncee, Toby Keith, Shania, Fiddy, and Sean Paul.

Another must see awards show.

Red Sox Win

I will be in Yankee Stadium for Game One of an ALCS Involving the Yankees and the Red Sox. I hate both teams. I don’t even watch regular season baseball. I already creamed my pants twice.

Sorry Cameron…

Nah, I’m not. Yankees/As just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

In Conclusion

Yeah, I got some ebay work to do over the next couple days…

Anyone got some Fenway tickets they’re looking to unload?
