The final issue of the second Generation One mini-series, can Dreamwave deliver a good send-off before we head straight into another three-four more months worth of “The War Within” flashbacks?

This issue is filled with exposition. Chock full of it. Some of it makes sense (such as Shockwave’s statement about the true purpose of the Autobots and the Decepticons) and some of it is nonsensical (Shockwave claiming to be the one responsible for the Ark II crashing, a nonsensical revelation if there ever was one). And yet with all of it, we STILL don’t get any answers to really pressing answers, like why Shockwave wants to conquer the Earth or what was going on between him and Scourge a couple of issues back.

The issue also sets up new storylines for the next Generation 1 series with some familiar nods to the old Transformers cartoon. Starscream, the Seekers, Soundwave, and the Decepticon tapes all head to Earth to conquer it with what can only be the Combaticons in storage to serve as Starscream’s back-up. Unfortunately their ship turns out to be Sky-Lynx who takes off and gives his villainous passengers a not-so-smooth lift-off.

Meanwhile we get the usual easter eggs from Dreamwave, most notably in the form of Ultra Magnus showing up in his white Optimus Prime repaint form and kicking Shockwave’s butt before Shockwave falls into a firey pit.

The issue ends with a massive cliffhanger of sorts as Wreck-Gar discovers Megatron’s barely living form floating out in space. The scene is coupled with another big easter egg moment as we see Wreck-Gar (voiced by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame in the Transformers Movie) watching the “Bring Out the Dead” sequence (which featured Idle as the Dead Collector) from “Mony Python and the Holy Grail” as he comes across the still living body of Megatron floating in space. The book ends with an ambiguous scene where it’s not clear if Megatron will be rescued by Wreck-Gar but the teaser page following it featuring Galvatron standing over Cybertron, more than likely means that Megatron will have to wait until Unicron finds him before he gets rescued.
