It’s the moment everyone has been waiting for. Wally West is back up to form.

The issue begins with Wally in the Bizarro situation of saving the life of the woman whose husband demolished Linda’s life. Huh? Ok Wally has to save Ashley Zolomon from the new Mr. Element. Even though Mr. Element is new it doesn’t mean that he’s not crafty as he puts up a decent fight, against the fastest man alive.

We are even treated to an ad hoc origin of Mr. Element. His motivation is based on pride. But he didn’t look too proud when the Flash was knocking his teeth out. The Flash takes him down, but someone prevents him from bringing him in. I would tell but that’s one of the treats of the issue.

Next, Wally goes home and makes a confession to his wife. It’s a heartbreaking moment. But things appear to work out for the best, and Wally has a new look on life. He is excited about his new life and new secret identity. But as the epilogues show, Wally’s life is about to get tougher. Linda still has some reservations and Ashley Zolomon appears to have a plan.

411Comic’s “Writer of the Year” Geoff Johns loves the Flash. It is evident in his work. He also loves Captain Cold and once again makes him a threat and an issue for Wally to deal with. The way that he conveys Wally’s apprehension about telling Linda about his secret is perfect. The scene is filled with tension and emotion. And by the end of the issue, you completely understand her decision. I’m also looking forward to the subplot of Ashley and Hunter. It’s the perfect end to Wally’s “dark days.”

Alberto Dose is unfairly attacked by Flash fans. I love the last panel on page three; it perfectly captures the Flash running. His portrayal of Wally pummeling Mr. Element is brutal, as it should be. And his Linda is stunning. I, for one, will miss his art. But by the same token, I look forward to Porter’s work, which is previewed here. Porter’s work is brighter and more optimistic, by design. It looks great. As a matter of fact, the entire issue looks fantastic.
