“She Lies With Angels” ends as Austen wisely focuses the final issue not on his one-dimensional Romeo and Juliet analogues and instead puts the attention on Husk’s mom and her war against the Cabots. In this issue Daddy Cabot deals a deadly blow to the Husk’s family while the X-Men desperately try and stop the Cabots and their armor.

Overall this arc has been rather disappointing as the relationship between Angel and Husk has been pretty boring without a shit-disturber messing things up. At this point I’m quite willing to let Chris Claremont steal Angel away so he can use him in the new Excalibur book, which I won’t be buying now that Marvel has fired Igor Kordey from the book.

Speaking of which, this entire arc reeks of filler material. Surely Austen could have used his last full arc on the book in a more meaningful manner, like say on the “Trial of the Juggernaut” story, or even on cleaning up his numerous dangling storylines? Granted all signs point to Austen more than likely transplanting his team (sans Angel and Nightcrawler) to “back to adjectiveless” X-Men come Reloaded but still you would think that he would give some closure to a lot of his running storylines.

The artwork by Salvador Larroca is pretty much standard and it’s a shame that it was wasted on such a dull storyline. His fight scenes were the only redeeming thing from his run on X-Treme X-Men and it’s a shame that he gets wasted on a lame filler arc.
