[Pop] Good Vibrations Hitting The Stage

In January 2005, “Good Vibrations” – a new musical featuring 30 Beach Boys songs – will open on Broadway, hitting the stage at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

Book by Richard Dresser and choreographed by John Carrafa (“Urinetown,” “Into the Woods”), “Good Vibrations” will feature such Beach Boys songs as “Good Vibrations”, “Surfin’ Safari”, “California Girls”, “Help Me Rhonda” and more.

Matthew’s Take

This marks the continuation of an interesting trend on Broadway, with new shows opening regularly that feature pop music and/or more cutting-edge themes. Broadway, looking to appeal to Boomers and Gen X? Hard to believe, but with shows ranging from “Avenue Q” to “Def Poetry Jam”, “Movin’ Out”, “Mamma Mia”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, “The Producers” (and “Gabba Gabba Hey” on the horizon), it looks like things could get interesting on Broadway for my generation.
