USA WINS GOLD IN WOMEN’S SOCCER
USA beat Brazil 2-1 to with the Gold Medal in Women’s Soccer. Abby Wambach scored the game winning goal in extra time. This is most likely the last game the USA women’s soccer team will play with Mia Hamm and the fab five since they became a powerhouse ten years ago. Many feel though that it was symbolic that one of the more younger players got the goal signifying that that USA Soccer will continue to be a force.

CUBA WINS GOLD IN BASEBALL
In Baseball, Cuba beat Australia 6-2 to win the gold medal. Though Cuba was by far the best team in the pool, many feel (including some of the Cuban players) the win is mired by the fact that several of the best teams were not in the Olympics including USA, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic. This was due to a controversial qualifying procedure in which the Olympics took the top two teams from the West (Cuba, Canada), Europe (Netherlands, Italy), East (Tawain, Japan), one from the South Pacific (Australia) and gave Greece the traditional hometown automatic bid. Many feel they need to be like other sports and simply take the top teams, period.
