As reported on ABCNews.com by Ellen Davis and Bill Redecker, the rape charges against NBA superstar Kobe Bryant have been dismissed.
The sexual assault charge was dropped by an Eagle, Colorado Judge Terry Ruckriegle today after prosecutors made it clear the alleged victim refused to testify after filing a motion to dismiss. While he still maintained he did not rape the woman, Kobe Bryant apologized to her and her family.
The charge was dismissed with prejudice, and cannot be refiled in the future, and Bryant’s apology was released with the understanding it cannot be used in a civil suit.
Opening statements in the criminal trial had been expected to begin Tuesday, with prospective jurors being interviewed this week.
