Murtzcellanious: Welcome To The Jungle

Boom!

Some of you know me. Other do not. But you all have to admit that I have a pretty kickass name. Hey, it rhymes with ‘hurts.’ You’re damn right it does.

My name is Murtz Jaffer and I want to personally take this opportunity to thank you for visiting Inside Pulse TV. It has taken a lot of work to get to this point and in addition to my excitement and manic stressation (yes I made that word up… screw you Microsoft Word spell check!) it is great knowing that the day has finally arrived.

First I would like to give you a little bit of background into myself before giving you a brief look into my vision for Inside Pulse TV.

I started my online career in 1996-97 when I began writing wrestling articles for a variety of horrible newsletters. While I really should be grateful to these places for giving me my start in the business, as I have grown in age so too has my concept of reality (weird for a guy who is as obsessed with reality television as I am) and I have no problem admitting that these all sucked.

Anyway, at least the newsletters got my foot in the door, and writing about Hulk Hogan’s greatness eventually led to better opportunities. I landed a job with the wrestling department of The Sports Network in Canada. The job entailed writing columns with my opinions on what was happening in the world of sleazy women and Vince McMahon, so at least it didn’t change much from what I was doing for those crappy newsletters.

From TSN, I moved over to ScoopsWrestling where I worked alongside Chris Hyatte for what I feel was the best wrestling website of its time (that is until Inside Pulse launched last month). This was a great learning experience as I moved from just writing from the comfort of my basement to covering events all over North America. It was during this brief period that I had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Widro.

Widro and I have since worked on many projects together. We had a real audio show, a wrestling parody site, and most recently my labor of love… Survivor-Central.com.

Survivor-Central.com is perhaps my greatest achievement. We launched it as just another stupid idea that we were hoping would eventually catch on. It did. It became one of the largest Survivor websites currently online. It was the only one that featured commentary from the actual contestants of the show. It also was the only one that offered a specific balance between author commentary and spoilers that told you what happened before it did. I have attended Survivor finales and after-parties. Playboy parties and charity events around the country were regular occurrences. I helped launch the Survivor board game (which will actually be a prize in our upcoming Survivor Pulse Pool). S-C also led into several newspaper and radio opportunities for me locally. I even got to guest lecture at a college!

Everything has to change sometimes, and I think that I have taken Survivor-Central as far as it can go. The chance to co-own and run something that has the potential to be the premiere entertainment site online was just too tempting and when Widro and I began discussing the idea of InsidePulse a few weeks ago, I really did not expect us to come so far in such a short period of time. It made the thought of merging Survivor-Central much easier. No longer will we have the tech problems that have plagued me! Hurray! Oh wait. I guess we are at Pulse now so the order of the day calls for a ‘Huzzah!’ So there. Huzzah!

Meh, it doesn’t have the same ring to it for me.

I am very excited that our staff will now be branching out past Survivor. This allows us to cover everything. From the best of reality television to the hardcore HBO programs.

My vision for Inside Pulse TV is quite basic and simple. I want to be the best. The best TV site around and nothing else will be enough to satisfy me. What is the best you ask? Well I will tell you. But only if you ask nicely.

Not good enough.

Okay. That will do.

I do not measure it in terms of hits (even though IP got 1 million in our first week) or number of columns or the amount of Survivor episodes that our Crystal Ball will spoil. I want everyone to know about Inside Pulse and Inside Pulse TV. The interesting thing is that people already do. I attended several reality-function over the last 2 weeks (when I really should have been working… but it is work Widro!) and was amazed when people actually asked me about it. There is no better feeling than having people hear about you and your work and I fully expect the same for all of the columnists that write here. It seems that everything I want on a TV site (even if it isn’t mine) is either already available on ‘da Pulse, or is in the works.

I want a TV site that has news available immediately.
Murrey will be updating the newsboard around the clock.

I want a TV site that has great writers with opinions.
I have personally had a hand in selecting every writer that is writing here, and can attest to their strength. We will have weekly feature articles everyday of the week. We will have daily columns on specific shows as well. And the best part is that we are still still hiring for your favorite show.

I want a TV site that has monthly features on interesting topics.
Two words. Steve Coogan. He is already working on ‘The Top 25 TV Characters Of All Time’ so look for that very shortly. There are also a lot of ideas in the works.

I want to know what to watch.
Do you want me to turn the TV on for you too? Just kidding. We will have quick hits as to what your favorite Pulse writers are watching.

I want a really sexy girl in charge.
You’ll have to settle for me. But I did get Jessie to take that pic. Who’s your daddy?

I want a really sexy guy in charge.
That can be arranged. But remember. You are on a website.

I want to hear from the celebrities themselves.
This is by far the aspect of Pulse TV that I am the most excited about. We will have weekly thoughts from former contestants on Survivor, The Amazing Race, The Apprentice, and The Real World. Which contestants? Bah. Surely you have never read ‘Website Hype For Dummies.’ Actually, neither have I. So we are driving without a map people! Hold on tight. Just be aware that we will have the same celebrity interaction that we did on Survivor-Central, except now we have a lot more of it and are covering everything on the tube.

Usually I am adverse to change. When I was in highschool, I went to McDonald’s everyday. A friend of mine had a car and we thought we were very cool by driving the 5 minutes to go to McDonald’s, instead of surviving on the sloppy joe special in the cafeteria. Anyway, with the 7 of us piling into a Dodge Intrepid… I usually ended up ‘being trunked.’ When we got there, my filet special would be waiting on the side with no line-up necessary. Ever since then I like being ‘that Cheers guy’ (obligatory TV reference to keep the story relevant). The regular. No change. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. However after talking with Widro, I have realized that progress has to happen. Change can’t be stagnated. Although it pains me to admit it, there is more on TV that just Survivor (although I still mandate it as a site requirement for everyone to watch the new Vanuatu season starting on September 16).

Inside Pulse is a complete site. A complete entertainment center. To achieve this, we need a complete television site and that is what we hope to create. Reality television, broadcast television, classic television. Everything.

I have been online for a very long time, and I can say with great certainty that this is the best staff that I have ever seen assembled. While I am truly looking forward to working with everyone, I am most excited about the fact that Scott Keith will be contributing some DVD rants to this section. His reputation is unparalleled and if for no reason, that is enough to make you want to visit Inside Pulse TV. I am also looking forward to working alongside Hyatte again. It’s just like wrestling’s revisionism and that my online career has come full circle.

I would not have agreed to merge Survivor-Central unless I really believed in the new megasite. And I believe in Pulse. Jonathan Widro and Tom Daniels have been working at a feverish pace, and everyday I am surprised by seeing a new feature that they have added. I believe that the TV section will be no different.

This is the diehard revolution. Now give me my remote.
