So here we are, with another part of the (very long) War Games, and while a lot happens in this issue, it still feels a bit like we’re dragging. I’m diggin all the character stuff that is happening, but liek everyone else, I wanna see some resolution, as we’re about half way thru the whole thing.

The big news and appearance in this issue is the return of former Commissioner Gordon. And yes, it’s very nice to see him. I suppose I always took his character for granted when he was in the bat-books on a regular basis. He always seemed such a natural foil for our friend the Dark Knight. So when he left, there was a noticable absence. He’s shown up from time to time in Gotham Central, or in Detective, and it’s always nice to see him. But when he shows up now, it’s for a reason, and always gives weight to the circumstances. Batman and Gordon have always had a mutual understanding, and saw things in a similar light when it came to protecting the city, so when Batman doesn’t see eye to eye with the current commisioner, he goes to Gordon for some support. To his surprise, Gordon takes the side of his fellow lawman. When this happens, Batman is taken aback, and mister emotionally constipated actually shows a bit of emotion.

Also, in this issue, we have Robin making his return known to Batman. He doesn’t get the response he is looking for either. Robin thought he’d be welcomed back with open arms, but Bats seems like he could care less. Pretty sad. I mean, I was excited about Robin returning, and I thought Batman would be as well.

Anyways, there is also some nice stuff with Spoiler and Catwoman, as Spoiler even more comes to terms with what she has created (she sort of jump started this whole city riot thingie), and Catwoman isn’t too comforting.

Overall, this issue is chock full o’ family like arguments and a general feeling of betrayal. We’re getting a nice inside look of how effed-up this family is, and how difficult it will be for them to save the city….because first they have to…..(wait for it)….save themselves.
Sorry, but I had to go for it.

Final Word: Another nice issue of War Games, but can we just start wrapping things up?
