The Botterm Dollar In Music #4

I’m gonna warn you up front, okay? I’m absolutely in love with the new Jimmy Eat World record and, as such, will constantly be shilling it until the release date on October 19. So with that out of the way, let me point you towards a few JEW-related items that you might find interesting.

>> IGN has an interview with Tom.

>> If you visit Stinkweeds.com around 9am CT today, you can pre-order the double vinyl of Futures. First 500 orders are signed by the band, so do it if you’re interested in that type of thing. I’ll be getting one, that’s for sure.

So Ernie Ball died last week. I’ve got a long history with Ernie Ball, and so this is extra sad for me. I played Ernie Ball strings for years before I started playing with Burst, and we secured an endorsement deal with them afterwards. The people were always great to deal with, and they treated us with care and respect. Somehow, I think that filtered down from the big man, so seeing him pass on is a sad thing. Ernie revolutonized rock and roll just as much as anyone else, because he invented the slinky string that is directly responsible for electric guitars becoming more than just an amplified acoustic.

I’m coming up on the latenight jukebox, so be on the lookout for that next weekend. Most of the stuff will be songs that you’ve never heard of, so maybe you’ll discover something new and refreshing. Or maybe just new.

I’m heading into the studio next weekend to FINALLY put the finishing touches on the Graceland record. On top of that, I’ve started doing demos for another solo record, so I’m thinking that I’ll probably hit the studio in December and finish that up. It’s a lot more…strange than anything I’ve ever done, which can mostly be attributed to me listening to a lot of Wilco and My Morning Jacket lately. Studio time is always fun when you’re thinking about doing it, but it gets painstaking when you’re actually there, so I think I’m going to try and get a real “live” feel by tracking multiple things at once this time around. It might not be the absolute best-sounding product, but I think it’s going to give it more life than I’ve been able to attain from my previous projects. There’s also a little talk going on about a re-issue of the Something Magical And Good EP from Burst, albeit with a few extra songs and maybe a brand new song.

<> Wilco has a new book coming out on November 15. Fans who pick up the book will also recieve an exclusive CD full of songs recorded during the “A Ghost Is Born” sessions.

<> The Strokes and Blondie are set for a Ramones benefit show that will see the proceeds go to the Cedars Sinai Cancer Research Center and the Lymphoma Cancer Research Foundation.

<> The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s have a DVD coming out on October 16. I’ll be first in line to pick up “Tell Me What Rockers To Swallow,” believe me.

2. Jimmy Buffett — Coast Of Carolina
3. Ani Difranco — Self Evident
4. Beck — Guess I’m Doing Fine

That’s it for this week. I’m not known for putting out big columns, so I figured I’d stick by that. I’ve got to work on the Late Night Jukebox anyway, so I’ll wrap things up for the week. Stay tuned to the Pulse for the rest of the week, because there’s some awesome stuff planned.
