CZW THE ALLENTOWN PROJECT
January 16th, 2004

-Thanks to all for the great feedback from the Cage Of Death 5 review, posted at my new home here at Inside Pulse.

Coming off a hot Cage Of Death 5 show, CZW runs a show in a new venue in Allentown PA. The crowd is not large but that’s never stopped CZW wrestlers from putting on a good show, lets hope its good this time.

MATCH RESULTS:

DJ Hyde vs. Jon Dahmer – Dahmer starts it off fast before immediately slowing down to an “intense” pace. He hits a plancha on Hyde and a chair comes into play. Back inside Hyde slams Dahmer on the chair for two. Dahmer cracks Hyde in the head with the chair and comes off the top with a chair elbow for the win at 3:37. Crap, but at least it was short. DUD.

Yellow Michinoku Ranger vs. Diehard — For the record, I’ve never heard of either of these guys. Ranger is actually a girl from Japan, and looks like she’s stepped straight out of a cartoon. She runs circles around Diehard and gets a hurricanrana off the apron. She hits a plancha to the apathy of the crowd. Back in, Diehard goes on the offensive before letting Ranger make the comeback. Then it all ends as he hits a version of the stunner to put me out of my misery at 6:51. WAY too long, and I don’t know what the point of this was. DUD.

Hallowmass vs. Nick Berk & Z-Barr – Berk and Corman start off with some chain and mat wrestling, providing a nice change from the first two duds of the night. Samir and Barr tag in and go at it, with Barr getting the best out of the encounter. The Softcore Connection cuts the ring in half and works on Samir. The pendulum swings when Samir and Berk tumble to the outside and Hallowmass goes on the offensive with Berk playing the face in peril. Berk makes the big comeback with a bunch of dangerous half-n-half suplexes. Hot tag Barr who cleans house, but gets roled up for the Hallowmass victory at 11:27. Not as bad as the first two matches, but this show isn’t inspiring my confidence. *1/2

Elimination Match: Joker vs. Sabian vs. Jonny Storm vs. Niles Young vs. Cory Kastle – This is every man for himself. Storm and Sabian start off, doing the token indy gymnastics sequence, which gets less and less impressive as the years go by. It has to be done by the right guys, in the right feud, with the right crowd heat to work properly. Young and Joker tag in and go at it before everything breaks down. Young hits a plancha on Kastle, then Joker follows with a really nice tope. Sabian hits a corkscrew plancha but they barely catch him and he smacks concrete hard. Storm hits a perfect springboard plancha to end off the trainwreck sequence. Kastle and Young go at it back in the ring and Kastle gets a jawbreaker to eliminate Young at 5:06. Sabian comes off the top with a 450 to eliminate Kastle at 5:33. He tries the same but again but Storm crotches him and hurricanranas him off the top to eliminate him at 6:47. Joker and Storm are the only ones left, and they go at it with some pin sequences. Joker hits a really nice drilling, twisting brainbuster for the win at 8:28. Not bad, but really spotty and disjointed. *1/2

CZW Jr Heavyweight Title: Sonjay Dutt vs. Derek Frazier – Sonjay is, of course, fresh off his title victory over Ruckus at Cage Of Death 5. They go at it with some gymnastics and criss-cross, though it’s better than most. Frazier then appears to injure himself, but its all a WORK~!! Just to get in some cheap shots on Dutt. Frazier throws some good punches and chops away on Dutt in the corner. Sonjay comes back with an enziguri and the Calcutt Cut for two. Frazier nails a facebuster for two, and a NICE enziguri. He goes up and tries a tornado DDT, but Sonjay blocks it and gets a Military Buster for the win at 7:56. Frazier is a solid junior heavyweight who does a more grounded style, and Dutt is one of the best high flyers around. They’ve had better showings than this, but the way this show is going, I’ll take what I can get. **1/2

CZW Tag Titles: Backseat Boyz vs. Alex Shelley & Jimmy Jacobs – The Backseats bring their manager, Dewey Donovan out in a wheelchair, as he is still suffering injuries from the Death Valley Driver he took from Lobo at Cage of Death. I don’t understand why the Backseats ever needed a manager because Trent just oozes charisma. Oh, those new to this site or my writing have to know this: Trent Acid is my favourite wrestler, in all of wrestling today (WWE included). The HUSS Jimmy Jacobs, and Trent Acid start off. Acid quickly gets rid of him with a poke to the eyes, drawing Shelley into the ring, where he falls victim to the Dream Sequence. Jacobs takes out the Backseats with a dropkick and some forearms. Shelley and Jacobs double team Acid. They keep him in the corner and work on him till Kashmere interference allows Acid to snap off a superkick. Backseat Driver on Jacobs gets only two. The Backseats cut the ring in half on Jacobs and go to work. They dump Jacobs to the outside and run him over with Donovan’s wheelchair. Back in, more Backseats double teaming backfires and the Huss snaps off a tornado DDT and tags in Shelley. Alex cleans house and nails a sit out DVD on Acid for two. Jacobs and Shelley hit Kashmere with a version of the Sidewinder, but then a miscommunication leads to Jacobs clotheslining Shelley and taking the T-Gimmick to let the Backseats retain at 8:40. No real great structure to this, but on a different night with a bigger crowd and more time, this would have been much better. Shelley turns on Jacobs after the match. **1/2

CZW Iron Man Championship: Jimmy Rave vs. Ruckus – This is not like Rave’s previous Iron Man matches, this is just one fall to a finish. Thank God. Ruckus bails a few times before finally locking up and taking the advantage on Rave with a nice sequence and some kicks. The Razzle Dazzle gets two, as does a face first suplex. Ruckus goes up but nobody’s home, and Rave makes the comeback with a belly to belly suplex. Rave escapes a sunset flip and hits the RUNNING KNEE to end the match at 8:50. Whoa, don’t know what to think here. Was short and relatively inoffensive, but there was just NOTHING going on here. *1/2

Pinfalls Count Anywhere: Ian Knoxx & The H8 Club vs. Adam Flash, B-Boy & The Messiah – This is obviously furthered on from the Cage Of Death 5 main event. Messiah and Knoxx start off, with the world champ gaining the advantage. Knoxx comes back with some suplexes but Messiah snaps one off. Flash and Gage tag in and go at it at Gage’s usual breakneck pace. Gage tags Hatred and they double suplex Flash for two. Knoxx is tagged and the former tag partners go at it before Knoxx miscalculates and becomes face in peril to the heel team. Hot tags occur shortly after and a brawl erupts. Gage messes up the Chokebreaker on Flash. He goes for some bootscrapes but the Backseats interfere, leading to a brawl with the H8 Club. Knoxx seems to be injured, so Wifebeater comes in, suplexes Flash through a table and wins the match at 10:51. Weird. The injury to Knoxx (I’m not 100% sure what happened to him) killed the finish they were working for, but the rest of the match didn’t exactly inspire my confidence. *3/4

The Verdict: – DAMN, this was a stinker. Not much to say about it other than: avoid.
