Former “Oz” regular Dean Winters’ next TV role will be prosecuting crimes, not doing time for them.
Winters has taken the lead role in “The Line,” a drama pilot for TNT about a shady federal prosecutor. Evan Handler (“Sex and the City”), Victoria Cartagena, Christina Cox (“The Chronicles of Riddick”) and Paul Ben-Victor (“The Wire”) are also in the cast, the network says.
“The Line” centers on a Miami-based U.S. attorney named Sean Foley (Winters), who enforces the law but doesn’t necessarily obey it. He’s ethically flexible on the job, and his personal life “blurs the lines between right and wrong,” as TNT puts it.
Mark Rosner (“Crime Story”) is writing the pilot and executive producing with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of DreamWorks TV. “The Line” is one of several pilots TNT is developing as it looks to get back into the original-series game.
In addition to his role as convict Ryan O’Reily on “Oz,” Winters had a recurring part in the first season of “Law & Order: SVU.” He’s also appeared in several episodes of FX’s “Rescue Me” and the feature film “Conspiracy Theory.”
