Paramount Classics has acquired the rights to Jay-Z’s rags-to-riches documentary Fade To Black.
The deal is reportedly close to being final and the film will be released on November 5. Previously, the sub-studio had specialized in art house films and foreign-language features.
The movie will give a glimpse of Jay’s rise to stardom and an extended segment will include footage of last November’s Madison Square Garden farewell concert. The film also follows the recording of his last LP, The Black Album.
Fade To Black features many of Jay-Z’s peers and contemporaries, including, Dame Dash, Beyonce Knowles, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, R. Kelly, Foxy Brown, Pharrell Williams, ?uestlove of The Illadelphonics, P. Diddy and Slick Rick.
