This month’s edition of Invincible is all about setups for future stories. The book opens up with a glimpse of a shocking alternate reality in which Mark agreed to his father’s offer at the end of Perfect Strangers. Now the two rule over the earth with an iron hand. Yanked from this reality is an individual named Angstrom Levy who let’s say is getting to know himself a lot better.

Back in the real world, Invincible and the rest of The Newly Reformed Guardians of the Globe are fighting of a legion of pink-skinned alien invaders. Things don’t go according to plan, leading to Cecil to make a drastic decision regarding the team’s future. Supernatural detective Damien Darkblood returns and proves to be not quite the sleuth we thought he was. Finally Mark confronts a villain from the past, as the team has to deal with the further fallout of the alien invasion.

Invincible continues to be an entertaining read, and this issue is no exception but alas lacks the drama of prior issues as pretty much everything in this issue feels like a set-up for the real story.

To be honest the real treat of this issue is in the special features, including a pair of stunning pin-up pages by the Luna Brothers, an “Invincipals” collection of “chibi” style images of the book’s cast, and a hilarious Walking Dead parody.
