Episode 5.06: Norman Mailer, I’m Pregnant!
Airdate: October 26, 2004
Norman Mailer appears as himself, chatting with a reporter at the Dragonfly Inn—to the delight of Lorelai and the displeasure of Sookie, who can’t get the author to eat her food. Also: journalist Rory has trouble finding an inspiring story idea for the Yale newspaper. Josh: Stephen Mailer. Logan: Matt Czuchry.
Lorelai and Sookie are thrilled when author Norman Mailer (guest starring as himself) and a young reporter (guest star Stephen Mailer, real-life son of Norman) show up repeatedly in the dining room of the Dragonfly Inn, but Sookie’s awe turns to annoyance when Mailer refuses to order any food. Working on a story for the Yale newspaper, Rory uncovers evidence of an intriguing secret society to which Logan (Matt Czuchry) belongs. Meanwhile, when Rory’s father, Christopher (David Sutcliffe), appeals to Lorelai for help after his girlfriend leaves him to raise their baby daughter by himself, Rory orders him to leave Lorelai alone. Finally, Sookie realizes that she is pregnant again
Norman Mailer, the literary lion will appear in an episode of “Gilmore Girls” later this season, which is perhaps all the proof anyone needs that The WB is trying to lure an audience beyond its teen and young-adult core. Mailer will play himself in the episode. His son, Stephen, also guest-stars as a reporter who interviews the author during his stay at the Dragonfly Inn, owned by Lorelai and chef Sookie St. James.
A new wealthy Yale female student will make her first appearance in this episode. She is set to be a recurring. She’ll be first introduced wearing an evening gown with a gorilla mask and drunk. Lorelai, Sookie, and Michel, have a meeting with the Dragonfly’s accountant, Ann. Even if the business isn’t doing too bad for a newly opened one, Ann wants them to lighten some of the financial load. Ann suggests a few things they can do to take some burdens off of their backs. Len, Yale’s #1 music downloading geek, teaches Rory how to download music off the net. Rory and Lorelai go to the Gilmores’ for the usual dinner but Emily and Richard are not there…
