Full Details On People's Choice Awards

A change in the way People’s Choice Award nominees are selected has resulted in a somewhat more wide-ranging group of hopefuls this year.
Usual suspects like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts and “CSI” are still there. But so are Zach Braff, Keira Knightley, Jon Stewart and “Arrested Development.” The awards will also allow more of the people to vote for the winners this year.

In the past, a Gallup poll determined the winners. Respondents were asked to name their favorite stars and shows, with no prompting, which resulted in some of the same people being nominated over and over, regardless of whether they’d made a movie or put out an album in that year. Winners were determined by responses to the Gallup poll rather than a more public vote.

This year, the show’s producers teamed up with Entertainment Weekly to help determine the nominees. The magazine’s “Front Row Panel,” consisting of more than 6,000 pop-culture fans, picked their favorites from a list of potential nominees and could also write in their own choices.
The show has set up a web site, PCAvote.com, for fans to choose the winners. The site will be active until Jan. 9, when the awards show airs on CBS.
