Hanks planning City of Embers

Tom Hanks, fresh off his upcoming film The Polar Express, is already planning his next move into children’s literature. His company Playtone (which produced My Big Fat Greek Wedding) has acquired the rights to Jeanne DuPrau’s novel The City of Ember.

The story is set in the future, after toxins and pollution have made the world’s surface uninhabitable and driven the population underground. Two teens, Doon and Lina, realize something is very wrong – the generators that power their city are dying, food is running out, and no one cares. The two set out to save their city and find adventure along the way.
