The issue begins with Father Leone dreaming about Superman as his savior. But his dream quickly becomes a nightmare. He wakes up and finds that his tumor is continuing to affect his health. He goes for a walk where he meets the mysterious Mr. Orr. Mr. Orr recounts his tale of an encounter with Halcyon and Wonder Woman.

In Gotham Superman goes to visit with Batman and ends up showing the Dark Knight up in his own town. Bats doesn’t take kindly to this, which leads to a confrontation and a debate.

Superman then goes for his visit with Father Leone, who asks him to cure him of the tumor. Superman declines but decides to take the Father to the Fortress of Solitude. Meanwhile Batman figures out what’s weighing on Superman’s mind. He makes a call to Wonder Woman, who is in route to the Fortress of Solitude, armed for battle.

Azzarello is such a fun writer to read. Deciphering the hidden and dual meanings that are everywhere. He also has a great character in Mr. Orr, who has some of the most hilarious lines in the book. His Wonder Woman is a princess and a warrior, and his Batman has not patience for Superman. While many people find this story moving slowly, it’s right on pace for me.

Jim Lee is a superstar. His art is as crisp as ever. He really manages to capture the tension between Batman and Superman in the scene between the too. He also makes Mr. Orr both menacing and enticing. It’s Jim Lee art, you know what you’re getting.
