WWE News: World Title Belts & Detroit Pistons, More On Talent Cuts

Archive

– At last night’s opening NBA game between the Pistons and Rockets, the World Champions wore replica WWE World Heavyweight Championship belts (the “big gold belt”), which Rasheed Wallace gave to the team after getting them from WWE, according to today’s Detroit Free Press.

– Andrew Martin (Test) was released, as previously reported, while still recovering from neck surgery. John Lauriaitis, WWE’s head of talent relations, let him go over the phone, saying it wasn’t personal, but a financial decision by Vince McMahon. According to PWInsider.com, Test was told that “for what he was being paid, WWE could sign six developmental talents” and to give WWE a call when he’s healthy. Needless to say, Test wasn’t receptive to that suggestion, and when he asked John what to do, he replied that he had hoped Test saved some money he’d been making over the years.

– Matt Bloom (A-Train) and Monty Sopp (Billy Gunn) were both also released for financial reasons, with both men making around $200,000 a year, and Sopp also compounding things with personal issues. The latest firings have made the rest of the talent on edge.

– WWE workers told PWInsider.com that at a recent wrestlers’ meeting, they were told the money from the successful European tour will take a while to get in.

– Chyna will be on the next season of VH1’s “Surreal Life.”
