Episode 5.10: But Not as Cute as Pushkin
Airdate: November 30, 2004

Rory is flattered when her former headmaster (Dakin Matthews) asks her to guide one of his pupils (Sarah Foret) around Yale; Lorelai learns the story behind Luke’s “dark day”; Paris tries speed dating—and finds herself paired with Doyle (Danny Strong); Logan (Matt Czuchry) embarrasses Rory; and Miss Patty celebrates her showbiz anniversary.

LOVE AND WAR — Rory is delighted when the headmaster (guest star Dakin Matthews) of her old prep school asks her to play hostess to a young student, Anna (guest star Sara Foret), who is thinking of applying to Yale. However, Anna turns out to be more interested in boys than academics and runs off to party, leaving Rory to deal with Logan’s (Matt Czuchry) elaborate practical jokes. Meanwhile, Lorelai and Luke have their first fight when she accidentally upsets him by buying an old boat that had belonged to his father.

Paris tries speed dating and is her usual abrasive self.

Rory has a new friend named Anna. When both are sipping coffees two male teens tell Anna about a party. Rory brushes them off saying that their schedule was already filled up. Due to a night almost sleepless, Anna dozes off in a class she has with Rory.

While driving down the street, Lorelai sees Luke arguing with an older woman. She stops her car and goes over to them. The woman, Mrs. Thompson, has been renting her garage to Luke (and his father before him) to store the boat that Luke’s father was building. Now Mrs. Thompson is moving into a nursing home in Florida. She has found renters for her house and they want the use of the garage for their cars. Luke has a week to find a new place for his father’s boat. Upset, Luke tells Mrs. Thompson to find someone to haul the boat and trash it and send him the bill, then he stomps off in a huff. Lorelai follows him and tries to calm him down, reminding him that Mrs. Thompson is going into a nursing home.
