News on Iron Man, Spiderman 3

Promoting the Spiderman 2 DVD, director Sam Raimi took some time to address the third and final chapter of the webcrawler’s adevtures. He revealed that he and is brother Ivan (who also helped him out on Army Of Darkness) are in the very early stages of the story, waiting on some visuals to help him concoct the first draft.

Raimi was cautious in his comments about the villain in the third film, pointing that he needs to know where the character is going, before putting someone in his way.

“I actually haven’t figured it out just yet,” he said. “I’m trying to determine Peter Parker’s journey as a human being, what it is that he’ll be learning on this next adventure, as a kid growing up, what life lessons [he’ll experience]. Once I know what that is, I’m going to try to develop obstacles in his path, like any dramatic writer would do. And out of those conflicts will come the drama. Either he’ll be able to overcome these conflicts or he won’t. But once I know his journey, and therefore the conflicts that are in his path, I’ll choose that villain that best represents those conflicts. That’s the way in which I’ve been approaching this, and I’m still not quite there in determining the villain.”

Columbia and Marvel previously announced a summer 2006 filming schedule, with a May 2007 targeted release.

– New Line Cinema and Marvel Studios announced Nick Cassavetes, son of legendary director/actor John Cassavetes, to handle the adaptation of the Iron Man film. Although Nick is currently filming Alpha Dog (about infamous FBI Most Wanted Jesse James Hollywood), the studio intends to start the casting right away, and get things going for an early 2006 release.

Just in case, Iron Man follows the exploits of Billionaire Anthony Stark, who creates himself an invicible body armour in order to fight crime. The feature has been a project long in development over the years, with talent such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta interested in starring in the project at one point.
