British director Rupert Wainwright (Stigmata) has signed on to helm Revolutions Studio’s remake of the 1980 spook thriller The Fog.

The original, directed by indy legend John Carpenter, told the story of a fishing town invaded by the ghosts of mariners who died 100 years prior. No word yet on what variation the new film will take for the storyline. Cooper Layne (The Core) penned the movie out of Debra Hill’s original screenplay. Hill will produce alongside Carpenter and David Foster. No star is attached yet, but Revolutions maintain their October 2005 targeted release date.

44-year-old Val Kilmer has fulfilled a long-delayed desire by returning to comedy, for the first time since 1985’s Real Genius. He will star in Shane Black’s Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, with Robert Downey Jr co-starring.

I’d been looking to do a comedy for a long time and no one would let me. But Joel Silver did, and it’s a great screenplay by Shane Black, the guy who wrote the first couple of Lethal Weapon‘s. What’s also great about it is the whole noir feel to it. It just a great detective story; and a great looking story,” Kilmer said. “And I have to say Robert’s just really brilliant in this movie.”

In the movie, Kilmer plays a private eye who unwilling partners-up with a struggling actor to solve a murder case. Michelle Monaghan, Joel Michaely and Corbin Bernsen also co-star. Release is scheduled for spring 2005.
