Daron old buddy now that you’re in charge have you got anything new in store for our fans of the Handbook?

Well, not for the fans of the Handbook especially but for our readers in general, yes. If you haven’t read the return of The Overlord’s Corner you should do so. I’ll be using that column to inform readers as to what’s going on with the site. And there’s at least one new surprise there in.

That sounds interesting. How about we start this one up and you can begin your fun.

Works for me…

I’m writing to ask you about the Daredevil video game from a previous column. I was wondering if the person who originally asked about it ever bought it and if the game was legit b/c I am seriously considering buying it myself. Thanks for the help.

Alright, here’s what we know. There was supposed to be a DD game that came out for Play Station. It actually was supposed to tie into the movie. It got canned some time ago. Then, we had sites saying they had it and some people confirmed it might be out. Now, this was half true. The game they thought I meant was the Gameboy version and it’s not. That game is out. I’ve never found any real evidence that the game we’re talking about came out.

I have some more to, if you don’t mind … mostly about the forgotten and under rated series Mutant X.

I’m ready and willing to answer.

What happened at the end of Mutant X? How did Havok get home so he could be felt up by Evil Nurse Annie?

Havok became something of a nexus between realities and used his mind to transport the Beyonder to another reality with him. There, Havok forced the Goblin Queen to reveal herself and freed Madelyne from her. He said his goodbyes then and erased the Goblin Queen from reality sending him home.

Ever think the Exiles will visit the Mutant X World? If they are going to be in the AoA soon, I would love to see a visit to that world as well.

I’d love to see them go there. It’s one time line that really would be interesting to have the Exiles appear in. There are a few others from What If as well I’d love to see.

Also, I remember in one of the Chuck Austen issues Xavier and Carter were doing some probing in Havok’s mind, and there was some evil presence there. I can’t remember who it ended up being, but I remember being psyched thinking it was a Mutant X reference and some one from there making their way to the 616 world … possibly the Goblin Queen.

Who did that end up being, or was it ever explained?

Here’s just a weird thought. Did you read the last issue of Austin’s run? They never answered the question in the Carter issue about Havok’s mind but could it be possible that is was somehow Cassadra Nova? Just a weird thought seeing as the Goblin Queen is dead as far as we know.

Did that story have anything to do with the crossover with the Exiles. I know it that story evil Havok from Mutant X had possessed our Havok and the Exiles were trying to stop him from killing people. Could that possibly be what Rob was referring to? – The Overlord

How about some Mutant X profiles?

How about I do a series on them after I’m finished with my AOA one. It will keep me busy.

I have a question regarding the Super Soldier Project that created Captain America (Operation: Rebirth being its proper name, I think) and the Weapon X project that included Wolverine.

I just finished reading Frank Miller’s Daredevil: Born Again and something in the last chapter made me curious. Captain America breaks into a top-secret military base at the end of the story to get information on the US government agent known as Nuke. He finds out that Nuke is one of twenty men selected for a new “Operation Rebirth”, a project trying to do what the lost knowledge of the original project tried to do: create an army of enhanced super-soldiers. Cap finds out that Nuke is the only one of the twenty who did not die, though be was obviously driven insane.

Fast-forward many years. Wolverine discovers in Grant Morrison’s X-Men that “Weapon X” actually means “Weapon Ten”, with the “X” actually being a roman numeral. It is mentioned that Cap is one of these “Weapons”, and that the early stages of the experimenting were done on animals.

The Weapon X project has been known to include individuals like Sabretooth, Maverick, Kane/Weapon X, and others. My question is, how do Weapon X and Operation Rebirth fit together? There are numerous recipients of new versions of the super-soldier serum that powers Cap. Do they count as Weapon X subjects? If so, how can they AND the animal subjects all fit in the 1-10 line of people? And how does Weapon X, usually shown as a Canadian project, mesh with Operation Rebirth, an American project? Are they, in fact, one and the same? If they are, why would the Canadians back a super-soldier project that would create Captain America, a soldier loyal to his own country alone?

And what’s up with the fail-safes of both projects? The fail-safe for Operation Rebirth was Tess-One, a giant silver Adamantium robot. The fail-safe for the Weapon X project appears to have been Shiva, also a giant silver Adamantium robot. It appears the two projects may have more in common than meets the eye.

I have not read the recent ‘Weapon X’ comic, but does it shed light on any of this? Does it clear up the convoluted mess that is the histories of Wolverine and Sabretooth? Does it explain the point of these projects, and how they produce super-beings as diverse as Captain America, Wolverine, Sabretooth, Kane, Nuke, Nomad, Fantomex, etc

Any answers you can provide would be very helpful. Maybe also a list of all the known Weapon X/Operation Rebirth principals? Sorry this is so wordy. Thanks!

You know this is one of the reasons I really never liked Morrison’s work. Okay, I read it. I just didn’t understand why he made this whole Weapon X thing a mess and included Captain America into it since Cap wasn’t really his to play around with.

Onto Weapon X version one. The Weapon Series is run by a joint effort between the U.S. and Canadian governments. They trained and created soldiers for the use as an army. In the beginning there wasn’t a connection to Operation Rebirth.; the creation of Captain America. But now with Morrison’s version it seems Cap was the first Weapon. Also if X is a roman numeral then why are Kane and Deadpool also called Weapon X? orrison screwed up the concept royally. I am betting it will be explained somehow in Weapon X the series or just forgotten all together.

Considering that Weapon X is behind a lot more individuals then just Wolverine, Morrison will have to read up the next time he decides to mess with an origin.

You tell ’em Jim! – The Overlord

Alright that’s it for today. Next week we finish our special feature on the AOA. Just in time for X-Men The End # 6 to come out. So we will do that issue the following week. Then we’ll start another special feature. This one will be Mutant X, the comic version not the show.

Daron any final words?

First, just a quick comment on the AOA thing…Did anyone else notice how much of a badass Sunfire was. The last bunch of guys Jim listed were all killed by sunfire?!? I don’t remember that at all. I’m gonna have to go back and read that. Makes you wonder why 616 Sunfire doesn’t get ANY action???

Past all that I’d like to welcome all of you to check out 144Anima.com, where this week our sister columnist Mathan Erhardt makes his comic strip writing debut (plus you marvel fans should really get a kick out of it, there are more than a few “guest stars.”) And as I said above, make sure to check out the return of my column The Overlord’s Corner to stay on top of everything that’s going on here at your favorite Comic News/Reviews Website.

Alright then, my turn. I’m not going to be longwinded this week. Check out Marvel.com for the new pole on the New Avengers. And be sure to email me your questions or post them here. Also don’t forget Blade Trinity opens today. I’ll review it next week in the Handbook if I can.

Reporting from my corner of the Marvel Universe, I’m Jim Trabold. Have a great week and see you again next Wednesday.
