Variety reports that Revolution Studios has lined up Rob Schneider and David Spade to topline baseball comedy Bench Warmers. The story is about three unathletic men who challenge youth baseball teams.

The original idea came from Adam Sandler, who is not expected to star in the film. Production begins in mid April, contingent on a director and third actor being found.

Variety reports that Dreamworks has renewed its contract with Red Hour, owned by Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld. Stiller is set to act and direct Tropic Thunder for the studio.

“What started out as a comedy about the hardship of actors having to reintegrate into society after taking the two-week Dale Dye boot camp and filming a war movie has turned into a comedy about five actors who go on location and find themselves relying on their boot camp experiences when they get stuck in a real war-like situation,” Stiller told the trade.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Mischa Barton, the star of Fox’s The O.C is in negotiations to star in Dino De Laurentiis’ adaptation of the literary classic, The Decameron. The novel by Giovanni Boccaccio centers on a group of ten young Florentines who escape from the Black Plague to the Italian countryside of Fiesole and spend their time telling stories to each other. Each day, they elect one of their own as the king or queen of the day who dictates the theme of the 10 stories to be told. The tales revolve around love, lust, relationships and adventure. Barton will play Pampinea, one of the seven women in the group.

David Leland will direct the film, scheduled to shoot next year in Florence or Rome.

MGM has put up a teaser website for their upcoming revamp of The Amityville Horror, along with a gripping teaser trailer.

Directed by newcomer Andrew Douglas, the movie dramatizes the true-life experiences of a family haunted by a demonic presence in their new home, which had been the site of a brutal massacre one year before. A best-selling book about the events, written by Jay Anson, was first adapted in 1979 with James Brolin and Margot Kidder. The new version stars Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George.
