Previously on:

Summer making up with Zach after talking about Seth all night. Kirsten saying something is up with Caleb. Alex telling Seth she thinks he is cute. Ryan telling Lindsay he likes her and wants to go out with her.

Starting off with the boys at school. Seth is talking about how he and Alex kissed. He then mentions how Ryan and Lindsay got along so well while talking at the bus stop. They see a banner promoting the upcoming winter dance, The SnO.C. (lame name). They debate what they should do about winter dance, if they should invite their respective female friends.

Cut over to Marissa who states that she is planning on going alone to the dance. She didn’t ask DJ. The girls, who have Zach in tow, run into the boys. Marissa asks if the boys need 4 tickets, Ryan isn’t sure if he is going to invite Lindsay or not. He fears she may not actually want to go with him. Summer makes fun of Seth because his date (Lindsay) pulled a Houdini on him. He tells her he made out with Alex. Zach, who is fed up with the flirting/fighting of the two, walks away.

We have now entered the magical and mystical place called”¦The O.C.

Back from commercials we come upon the Cohen household. Sandy is trying to call Caleb and is forced to leave a message. Sandy is annoyed that Caleb is refusing to meet with him. He wonders what could Caleb have done that he would rather go to jail for then reveal.

Back at School Ryan sees Lindsay, he hints at the dance. She says they are lab partners and if they break up it would make things awkward. WOW worst excuse EVER! She tells him she just wants to be friends. I must say Lindsay is looking a bit better today. An improvement in the wardrobe, no more hand me downs.

At the other side of the school”¦ DJ calls Marissa. He is at school wants to go out for lunch with her. They decide to go make out at her place. He asks her about the dance, which he saw a sign for. He hints at not being invited, she blames the fact she is working at the dance and won’t have time to have fun. He hints it’s because she doesn’t want him to meet her friends. Just then we see that Julie has come home and sure enough she finds them in bed together.

Julie fires D.J. on the spot (I thought he quit and was working for another family, I guess continuity isn’t important) and she grounds Marissa. Julie then tells D.J to stay away from her daughter. Yeah that will work.

Ok just a side note about D.J. I was watching an episode of Law and Order: SVU. I don’t normally watch it but it was on, I was bored. The actor who plays D.J. was in the episode helping out Ice-T on a case. He was actually not bad in that role. Then again Ice-T is known to bring out the best in others, right? So I take back all my attacks that he is a bad actor. I worry now that the writers are just messing up his character and it is not his fault D.J. is so boring.

Over at the office of Newport Group, Sandy goes to visit Kirsten and tells her that he only has 2 weeks till trial because the judge has refused his motion to push back the trial date. She is surprised about how Caleb is acting. She doesn’t know how Caleb could hide bribery from her. He tells Kirsten he is going try to talk to the mystery woman, Renee Wheeler, away from her lawyer.

Meanwhile at school”¦ Zach runs into Ryan. Zach confesses to Ryan that he believes the dance will end up being about Summer and Seth. Ryan tries to reassure him by telling him that Seth has a new girl.

Over at the Peach Pit”¦errr Bait Shop. Alex is looking a hell of alot better without that stupid haircut. Seth is once acting like a big loser. He asks her to dance. She tells him that he got the wrong idea, “You and me it’s not happening.” She says the kiss didn’t mean anything to her. To prove her point she kisses some the beer guy, Homer (as Seth inwardly Dohs!), to follow that up she kissed a girl, whom seems to be working there.

Now that Fox has shown what every guy wants to see, a little girl-on-girl action, we cut to commercials.

We are back and the boys driving around town lamenting how women are crazy. How right they are. They get out of the car and see Marissa carrying stuff for the dance and even in their woman hating mood decide to help her. Ryan has to carry a big penguin. Marissa and him start playing around. From a distance Lindsay sees them having fun. Seth happens to notice her watching them and goes to tell her to ask him to the dance, it’s not too late he tells her.

Marissa tells Ryan that the boys can get free tickets. Ryan says he won’t be going because he is dateless. He asks about D.J. She says her and DJ are “hanging out.” (ie. Friends with benefits). Marissa comes up with the idea that her and Ryan should go to dance together as friends.

Seth goes to talk to Summer. He tells her he needs girl advice. She feels bad so she is willing to listen. He tells her what happened with Alex. Summer thinks that Alex is playing him hot and cold. She tells him that he has to go Iceman on her ass. Seth gets excited thinking she is referring to the X-men but she says she was thinking more of Top Gun. Seth is satisfied with the Top Gun reference. Meanwhile Zach sees them talking and getting along. He walks away looking none too pleased.

Across town Sandy “runs” into Renee Wheeler. She refuses to talk to him and threatens to report him to the Bar association. Sandy is still left wondering what the secret is as she drives away.

Back at school Lindsay runs into Ryan at library and she tells him she would like to go to the dance with him. He tells her he is kinda going with someone else, Marissa. Trying to save face she backtracks and rescinds her decision to ask him to dance.

Summer runs into Zach and he blows her off. He then tells her he has family obligations and can’t go to the dance. Summer gets mad and wants to know why he is bailing on her. Zach tells her to just ask Cohen because he would love to take her.

Back to The Bait Shop again. Seth has shown up for work. Alex orders him around to do some menial work. He goes to do his job without complaining or much else. Alex notes to Seth that he isn’t really chatty right now. He kinda shrugs his shoulders. She goes to walk away. Seth then stops her and tells her that he is too busy with school to be working part-time so he has to quit. He leaves the bar reluctantly; no doubt hoping Alex will run after him.

Now that things are in complete upheaval, no seth-alex, no ryan-lindsay, D.J no doubt feeling like Marissa just wants him as a boy toy, Zach upset over Summe’s obsession with Seth, we head to commercial.

With all those problems we head to try and solve another one. Sandy leaves another message for Caleb, tells him it is urgent. Sandy wants to get pictures of the boys before the dance. Seth is watching Kung Fu and not going to the dance. Ryan wants Seth to come with him and Marissa as a group. Sandy and Kirsten decide to join Seth for the Kung Fu movie. They ask a bunch of annoying questions about the movie which causes Seth to get up and get dressed to go to the dance.

Now to a shot of the girls getting ready. Summer declares that she doesn’t care if Zach will show for the dance or not. She wants to go alone anyway. It turns out she is going with Marissa and Ryan, just then they open the door and Cohen is there. He asks, “Where is Zach?” They declare it is just like old times as Seth and Summer spat while Ryan and Marissa try to shut them up.

They arrive at the dance. Seth is impressed with the decorations which he compares to when Mr. Freeze attacked the Gotham city ball. Ryan asks Marissa to dance. Summer walks away from Seth before he can do the same. Ryan and Marissa are dancing far apart, looking very grade 5, she pulls him closer. Julie goes to talk to Jimmy and says she is glad Marissa is with Ryan, who no doubt seems the lesser of two evils.

Back at the Cohen home Caleb shows up. Sandy tells him that he spoke with Renee Wheeler and bluffs that knows about the affair. He states that 16 years is a long time to be paying palimony, unless there was a child. Sandy speculates that Caleb set up the trust for a kid he had with Renee. Caleb does not deny any of Sandy’s speculation but he refuses to tell the judge any of this information.

We see Zach in his car. On the radio the station is playing live from the dance. Yeah I am buying that! Radio stations always go to high school dances.

At the dance Seth goes to ask Summer for slow dance. She relents and they dance.

Zach turns his car around. Is he headed to the dance perhaps?

Back at the dance Julie goes to talk to Ryan. She says nice things about him and is glad he is back in the picture. DJ shows up in his truck and Marissa goes to meet up with him. Ryan is outside and sees Marissa. He takes off his tie for her to give to DJ so that DJ can go to the dance. He tells her that she shouldn’t be ashamed of DJ.

Inside we see Summer and Seth dancing. Seth again asks why Zach isn’t at the dance with her. She tells him that he was jealous of the two of them talking. Zach shows up and sees the two of them dancing. He goes over to talk to them and tells Summer, “I thought you might still need a date.” He then goes on a rant about the Summer and Seth relationship comparing it to Joanie and Chachie, Luke and Leia. This later one freaks out Seth as he points out they are sister and brother. Zach leaves the dance.

Meanwhile Ryan shows up at Lindsay’s place. She is wearing Freudian slippers. She is looking cute in glasses. (sorry I have a thing for girls in glasses) He tells her that he feels bad for not going to dance with her and wants to hang out. She says no that it can’t work out because of who he is. He tells her that he isn’t giving up and then says goodnight.

On that sappy note we get a word from our sponsors.

After that break we see Caleb and Renee talking. She says she didn’t tell Sandy anything. He lets her know that he is willing to go to jail to protect the secret. He claims it would devastate his family. He offers to send them both out of the country until things calm down.

Back to the bait shop. Zach shows up to drink away his sorrows. Oh wait he is underage and instead orders a uhu. Wow, that is living dangerously. He recognizes Alex behind the bar as being Ryan’s date. After she finds out he goes what high school he goes to she asks him why he isn’t at dance. He says because the girl he loves is at the dance with another guy. Alex tells him he needs to fight for her. At first Zach isn’t so up for fighting but then figures he could threatened to fight and even if the fight did happen he states, “I could take Seth Cohen.” He then runs off to go confront Seth. Alex tries to shout at him to confirm if he said Seth Cohen.

Back at the dance DJ is dancing with Marissa. Julie spots them and goes to confront her but Jimmy stops her. He tells her that his parents threatened to cut him off if he married her. They talk a bit more about the old times which results in the best line of the night, “and we both know you were never nice.” Then Julie kisses Jimmy. At first he backs off and then kisses her back. WOW! Jimmy what are you getting into?

Outside of the dance we see Summer and Seth but they are not together. Seth is stuck without a ride home as Ryan has left with the car. Summer is waiting for DJ and Marissa to stop making out and give her a ride home. They sit on a bench at opposite ends. Zach shows up and he punches Seth without saying anything. Right after that happens he immediately feels bad and apologizes to Seth. Alex shows up right afterwards and says she feels responsible for what happened. Summer and Zach leave together all happy from his er”¦romantic? gesture? Alex offers to take Seth to the club to fix him up with the first aid kit she has there. Even in his pain Seth hints about the store room. (ie. fooling around) Way to keep your eye on the price. Alex offers to hit him again.

Fast Forward to Alex and Seth at the club. He starts to joke about how tough he is. She shows him how to make a proper fist and how to defend himself. She hits him in the eye while play fighting. She kisses his eye to make it better and asks, “Did I hit you anywhere else?” She kisses him on the lips and they make out.

Back at the Cohen homestead Ryan is reading. Lindsay shows up and she looks very cute. She starts dorkily talking about reading and how she couldn’t focus after he left. Before she can finish her thought he kisses her. He then says “I know something we can do that doesn’t involve talking.” And the porn bass line starts to twang”¦wrong. Instead they play video games. Well it’s a start I guess.

Renee Wheeler shows up to talk to Sandy and meets Kirsten at the door. Sandy tells Renee he knows everything but with no help from Caleb. He has deduced it all from common sense I guess. The two are talking out backyard and in the background you can hear Ryan and Lindsay. When Lindsay says, “Mom, what are you doing here?” SUPER WOW! It’s Lindsay’s mom!! That means Caleb is Lindsay’s dad! WOW. So Ryan dating Lindsay, is that inbreeding? Caleb could be Ryan’s father-in-law and his adopted Grandfather. Too bad Seth and Lindsay didn’t work out. He could be dating his Aunt.

On that dramatic note the show ends.

Next week on The O.C.:
The Cohens celebrate Chrismukkah. They invite everyone, which means lots of conflict, including Kirsten yelling at Caleb. Oh and Jimmy and Julie sleep together. Looks like things are going to be exciting next week.
