Press Release: Canadian Idol Winner Kalan Porter Rocks The Country With Sold-Out Concert

Only three short months since capturing the Canadian Idol crown, Kalan Porter has taken Canada by storm with a best-selling CD and sold-out concert dates across the country. While 219
Days, his debut CD, continues to cruise toward double platinum status, Porter’s 37-stop, cross-country tour is shaping up to be one of the most-anticipated concert series of the New Year.

Porter is currently rehearsing with his new band for a tour set to begin in early February, 2005. Since tickets went on sale several weeks ago, concert dates have been selling out in every region. The initial leg of his Ontario 11-stop Ontario tour was virtually sold out in less than an hour, with a second show having to be added in Toronto at the legendary Massey Hall. Tour dates in Atlantic Canada were also almost completely sold out in less than a day. Concerts in Western Canada were announced yesterday and many sold out
within minutes. For complete tour information, visit www.kalanporter.com.

Porter’s debut CD, 219 Days, continues to remain near the top of Canada’s SoundScan charts since debuting at Number Four when it was released a month ago by Sony/BMG Canada. It continues to outsell new CDs from artists such as Gwen Stefani, Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson. Already platinum, 219 Days is approaching double platinum status, a rare feat for a Canadian artist. His first single, Awake in a Dream, became eight times platinum and remained on the top of Canada’s Single’s Chart for 10 straight weeks. It was the biggest-selling single debut ever for a Canadian artist.

CTV revisits the moment Porter’s career began when the spectacular two-hour grand finale of Canadian Idol is rebroadcast on Saturday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings). The finale, which reached an audience of over 6.5 million*, features special performances by the Canadian Idol Top 8 and an emotionally riveting duet by Porter and Canadian Idol runner-up Theresa Sokyrka.

As revealed by Porter on etalk Daily earlier this month, CTV will begin production in the New Year on a blockbuster third season of Canadian Idol.
With an expanded audition tour for Season Three, Canadian Idol will travel to previously untapped cities and provinces in the search for Canada’s next undiscovered singing sensation. Details of the audition tour will be announced in the New Year.

Canadian Idol remains the most-watched Canadian series (English language) since the advent of electronic measurement. Ratings for Season Two increased by 14 per cent overall, with significant gains made in Canada’s two largest
markets, especially among younger demos. In Toronto, ratings among men aged 18-34 increased by 23 per cent while in Vancouver viewers also increased 23 per cent among Adults 18-34. *
