Howdy, it’s Friday, which means you’ve got another column from me.

Let’s get right into it, shall we?

What I Watched On TV Last Week

Since the holidays are upon us, there really wasn’t too much to watch.

Saturday Night Live – It was a decent episode. You’ve really got to love anytime Prince and Beyonce make an appearance, it’s always hilarious. Bobby looked a little uncomfortable as the host, but I enjoyed the episode.

The Simpsons – Taped it but haven’t watched it yet.

Arrested Development – Ditto

Desperate Housewives & Boston Legal – More on those two later.

Oz – You’ve got to love reruns. I watched a season finale and a season premiere two days apart. The finale was shocking, with the death of ______(edited for Joe Reid). I knew it was coming, but it was still jarring to see. The premiere was solid. It’s a great opener, which basically explained most of what had happened up to that point. I love Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Greatest Show Ever”¦this week: The Wire
This season’s finale could double as the show finale. As a guy who had seen the second season, and just finished watching the first season a couple of weeks ago, I can say that if the series didn’t come back, it reached a satisfying conclusion.

I never really paid attention to the character of Marlo. But this episode made me a fan. The scene in the courtroom at Avon’s arraignment just proved how large Marlo’s b@lls are. There are enough plot threads to pick up but like I said; I could be satisfied if this was the show’s finale.

The Fiasco That Was Sunday

So, I had to work early on Sunday. My roommate worked that night. I gave my roommate a tape to tape the Sunday line up (The Simpsons, Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, & Boston Legal) for us (but mostly for her, as I’d get home in time to catch the latter two.)

Anyway, I get home around 9pm, and watch The Wire, content that her VCR is taping in her room. She gets home around 9:30 and finished watching The Wire with me. Afterward, we chill, watch videos and talk about the show.

So later I suggest that we watch some of the TV that we taped. She goes in her room. Moments later she returns with bad news; Desperate Housewives & Boston Legal didn’t get taped because she didn’t rewind the tape.

Never mind that I told her to rewind the tape, and she forgot. I wasn’t really too disappointed, because I was sure that Desperate Housewives was just going to infuriate me like it did last week. And Boston Legal didn’t hurt that much either, considering I fell asleep on it last week.

What got me was that half an hour after confessing about her lapse in responsibility, she has the audacity to demand that we get TiVo. Now I was drowsy at that point, but her argument was that the task of setting a VCR was too arduous, and besides TiVo is only $10 a month.

I believe my reply was “whateva.”

Christmas Eve and Nothing is on

Alas, tis Christmas Eve. Tomorrow most of you will be enjoying time with your families. I, on the other hand, will be sitting on my couch searching desperately for something to watch.

Now I can understand why programmers don’t generally schedule “good programs” during the holiday season; most people don’t have the TV on. And if it is on it’s playing new DVD’s or video games.

But aside from those of us who boycott major holidays, there are those who desperately need to escape family gatherings, and will try to do so via television. However their viewing options are limited.

As if it isn’t bad enough that networks choose to air schmaltzy holiday programming designed to make you feel warm and fuzzy (unless you’re like me, with only your couch for company, in which case “warm and fuzzy” translates into morbidly depressed). To make matters worse, it falls on a Saturday, a notorious black hole for quality programming. I’m screwed.

Wait. Cinemax is going to debut You Got Served! My Christmas has been saved; by the unlikely tandem of Omarion and Marques Houston. Huzzah!

I can start a new holiday tradition; instead of It’s a Wonderful Life my family will watch You Got Served. Rather than going caroling door to door in the neighborhood, my family will stage elaborate dance offs in the middle of the street, for all of our neighbors to see.

And when our kids open their presents, we won’t say “Let’s see what Santa brought you”, but rather; “Let’s see what Santa served you.” I can see it all clearly, almost as if the Ghostface of Christmas Future were showing it to me.

So don’t cry for me Argentina. I’m going to get served for Christmas.

Well that’s it.

What, you expected a more meaningful column? C’mon, if the networks weren’t going to put out for diminished viewers, why would I put out for diminished readers? Use your noggin!

Brian enjoyed Carnivale’s first season, which confused me. The first season, not his liking it. Upon second read, his liking it also confuses me.

Patrick give you an introductory lesson on Raymond.

Coogan gives you his Top Ten of 2004. He even mentions The Shield and The Wire, but as shows he needs to pay more attention to. Recognizing the problem is the first step at recovery.

J.A.M.balaya

Once upon a time there were three guy who rocked so hard that they couldn’t write for the same site. But even though they were on two different sites, writing Friday columns was just too much for the day. It couldn’t take it. The anticipation for Friday was greater then ever, and honestly it was stressing Friday out. Thus one writer moved his column to Monday and balance was restored to the universe.

Sharin’ Aaron Cameron gives you the rundown on the Best and Worst in 2004’s Hip Hop. He also has a pic of him and the wiz. Read The Goodness The Sweetness (as in “that’s sweet” not “dude are you sweet?”)

Jolly Joe Reid goes on and on about Closer. He also addresses a Wonder Woman movie. Peep his column on Monday for his Best of ’04.

Greatest Video Ever”¦this week
Lionel Ritchie – Running With the Night.

Honestly this video rocks. It’s got that epic Beat It/Thriller feel. It’s got that wicked cool ’80s choreography. It’s got Lionel looking the coolest he’s ever been. But to top it all off, it’s got Shelia E and Michael “Eddie Torres” DeLorenzo. I’m being sincere when I say that this video slayed me.
