This comic is good, but nowhere near as good as it could and should be. I love the Authority. It’s a great idea. But this book is proving that the idea’s time has come and gone. There is nothing wrong with that, but it has happened. It’s got a great creative team behind it, and so it should be firing on all cylinders. And they are”¦kind of. But despite all that, it’s just not as good as it once was. When it was huge, it was because that is what was trend was. It was a big dissection of the superhero genre. And that was cool for a while.

But look now, Warren Ellis and Mark Millar, the two writers who made the Authority what they are, are both now solely working on traditional superhero comics. Once again, nothing wrong with that, but it’s just not as it once was.

So this new story is fine, but nothing spectacular. Supervillians scheming, inner team turmoil, and a world in peril. That’s what we get here. We also get it in X-Men, JLA, and every other comic out there. So now the Authority is no longer special.

The over the top violence is still there, but so what? It lacks the edge it once had. So it’s just boring.

I wish I could say something better about the book. It’s not bad comic writing. It’s just typical. And I expect more from this team. I can always go back to the former series. I mean nothing against the creative team. You’re doing a fine job crafting a story here. But it’s not 2000 anymore, and times are just different. The Authority’s time has come and gone already. The team should too.
