Like Madrox, Mystique has been another consistently enjoyable X-spinoff. McKeever’s
writing has always been top-notch, and Garcia’s layouts are tremendous, month
in and month out.

In this issue, the "Quiet" story arc continues, with Shortpack the
prisoner of the Quiet Man, and Mystique trying not to get killed by the U.S.
government. One of the great things about "Mystique" is that it balances
action with plot exposition, and this issue is no exception. Mystique’s "escapades"
with the agents trying to take her down are about the best action sequences
you’ll see. Also, in a fun bit, we get to see what the Little Mermaid would
look like if she were blue. Just when you think Ariel couldn’t get hotter….oh,
sorry. *ahem* Anyway, moving on. We also see more of the…interesting…relationship
between the Quiet Man and Shepard. It also appears that the Quiet Man has a
secret beneath his robes…but we’ll have to wait until next month to find out
what it is!

I don’t know what more I can say about Mystique that hasn’t already been said.
This book is consistently excellent month after month, and I wish more people
were reading it. The art is always amazing, and McKeever has apparently graduated
from the Vaughan School of Cliffhangers, because I am ALWAYS looking forward
to the next issue. Thumbs way up.
