Airdate: January 13, 2005

A rare good deed lands Abby in trouble after a she’s abducted by a gang desperate to save one of their wounded members. Meanwhile, Ray deals with a patient’s reluctance to be treated by him.

ABBY IS KIDNAPPED BY GANG MEMBERS IN THE HOPES THAT SHE CAN SAVE ONE OF THEIR WOUNDED – As Abby smokes in the ambulance bay, an SUV pulls in carrying a gunshot victim. When Abby runs to the car to help the patient, she’s pulled inside at gunpoint and driven away. Ray begins treatment on a woman who soon requests a new doctor. At first Ray is offended, but then learns that there is more to the patient’s story than meets the eye.

When making her rounds with med students, the Neela we saw in the first episodes she’s been in reappears, the one with all the too complicated medical jargon and the perfect sentences. When a patient begins to cry instead of helping him she asks the students what are the various causes for crying! An 18-year-old gangbanger wearing cuffs is brought in the ER. As Ray is assessing his wounds, the gangbanger makes fun of Ray’s street language and music taste. When a nurse tells him a patient wants to see him, Ray, to Carter and Pratt’s displeasure, leave the gangbanger saying that anyway Pratt as a better connection with the patient. The gangbanger is sure he saw Pratt somewhere before.

Abby thinks that Lewis’ promotion got to her head and that to Lewis’ eyes now everyone is a slouch. Abby wants to take a break even if residents can’t… she at least decides to have a smoke outside. There, a young black kid tells her his brother needs help because he’s been shot. Abby follows him to the SUV where his brother is supposed to be but she doesn’t see him at first… she’s pushed in the car and kidnapped. Thinking Abby just decided to have an unauthorized day off, the Hospital keeps paging her so she comes back to work. Back in the ER, a few patients who’ve been shot are brought in… maybe the work of a gang? Carter and Kovac are also concerned about how Lewis has been acting. Lewis feels bad about how people see her but she has to do her job. Neela makes rounds with med students. Sam, Ray, Malik, Jerry, Pratt, Haleh, and Wendall also appear.
