Variety reports that Alvin Sargent, who was credited for heavily rewriting Spider Man 2 and did some light rewrites for the first Spider Man, will be paid a seven-figure deal to pen Spider Man 3.

Sargent has already begun crafting the script with director Sam Raimi and brother Ivan Raimi. Sony/Columbia Pictures is targeting a release date of May 2007. Spider Man 3 will reunite stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco for the third and final adventure.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that James Marsden will be reuniting with director Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) in his Superman film planned for 2006. Marsden will play the role of Richard White, who will be Lois Lane’s love interest. Hugh Laurie, who stars in the Fox TV show House (a show produced by Singer), is in negotiations to play Perry White, editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet newspaper in Metropolis. Both Richard and Perry will be related to each other.

Warner Bros. will release Bryan Singer’s Superman in 2006, with Brandon Routh as Superman/Clark Kent, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.
