Gabriel Byrne could be Jor-El in Upcoming Superman

According to fansite Superman V, director Bryan Singer is now focusing on Clark’s relative. The site reports that UK star Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) is being courted for the part of Jor-El, Clark’s Kryptonian dad. Patrick Stewart’s name has also been mentioned, as he himself has expressed interest. The rumour mill, however, mentions that Stewart might be too ‘Xaviery’ for the part.

As for mom and dad Kent, very little is known regarding their part in the movie. Singer earlier commented that his movie would take place right after Richard Lester’s Superman 2, which would indicate that pop Kent, who died in the original, wouldn’t even be around except for scenes involving Clark’s youth.

Also heard are comments from actor Terence Stamp who’d be keen to revisit his role of General Zod, although he wouldn’t mind if long-rumoured Jude Law were to get the nod. Said Stamp, “If Jude Law played Zod, I’m sure he’d do great. He could be “Son of Zod,” couldn’t he? Unless it was a kind of prequel”.
