Muhammed Hussan and Khosrov Daivari made the front page of United Arab Emirates newspaper 7 Days recently. It is noted that the two characters had been “condemmed” by a local media expert for “pandering to the lowest common denominator.”
“The world needs to be reassured that America is good and coupled with the abuse issues, this programming might do the opposite with respect to public opinion globally,” Dr James Piecowye, assistant professor of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed University in Dubai, U.A.E. told the newspaper.
Piecowye stated that WWE was about one thing, making money, and they were exploiting the negative stereotypes of Arabs in order to do so.
The article also made note of the WWE.com description of the two characters, which stated, “All Muhammad Hassan wanted was to coexist with his American neighbours and feel a sense of belonging. That wasn’t meant to be. So now, Hassan and Khosrow Daivari are taking out their frustration in WWE.”
The front page of the article featured a picture of Hussan while the online version features both Hassan and Daivari. You can go here to read the online version.
