PRESS RELEASE

BURLYMAN ENTERTAINMENT’S DOC FRANKENSTEIN #1 SELLS OUT – THE WACHOWSKI BROTHERS GREEN LIGHT 2ND PRINTING WITH NEW GEOF DARROW COVER!

DOC FRANKENSTEIN is written by Larry and Andy Wachowski (the writers and directors of The Matrix Trilogy), co-created by Geof Darrow (Hard Boiled, Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot) and Steve Skroce (Spider-Man, Wolverine: Blood Debt), and illustrated by Steve Skroce. Coloring is handled by Jason Keith (El Cazador, Samurai: Heaven and Earth).

This second printing is locked to ship with DOC FRANKENSTEIN issue #2, ensuring those that missed out can jump on without missing a beat. This new edition also features as the cover one of the very first — though never before seen — illustrations of the character by co-creator Geof Darrow.

Signaling a greater demand than many retailers projected, the first issue has received more than double its initial orders through reorders in just the first few weeks. This second printing is the result.

Of the first issue, critics have said:

“This is a book you give people who don’t get why comics can be cool. This is a book that you read and re-read simply for the sheer enjoyment of it.” www.AintItCoolNews.com

“Good comics, well made. Give it time, and Burlyman could live up to its name and logo, becoming a new industry strongman. Here’s hoping.” Mark Clapham, www.ShinyShelf.co.uk

“After one issue I’m sold on Doc Frankenstein. The Wachowski Brothers have done what great writers do at the start of a story–they’ve brought their main character to vibrant life, introduced their world, and left me salivating for more.” Chris Delloiacono, www.InsidePulse.com

“A great read that makes the wait for the next bimonthly issue a long one.” Tom McLean, www.Variety.com

“The brothers produce a nifty what-if. As in, what if the monster became a monster hunter with big guns, a 10-engine jet, and a giant desert headquarters… Illustrator Steve Skroce packs the frames with detailed drawings of mechanisms and gears.” Adam Rogers, www.Wired.com

“A guns-a-blazin’ mix of Wild West action and neo-theological sci-fi.” Tom Russo, www.EntertainmentWeekly.com

For the Wachowski Brothers, comics remain a vital way to tell stories; before committing their ideas to celluloid with Bound and The Matrix trilogy they cut their teeth as writers at Marvel comics. First and foremost, they are fans of the medium.

Steve Skroce illustrates DOC FRANKENSTEIN in the graphic style he honed as the Key Storyboard Artist on The Matrix trilogy and on comic titles such as Spider-Man and Wolverine. With the Wachowski Brothers handling the writing, Steve Skroce on the visuals, and co-creator Geof Darrow ever in the mix, this series promises a Frankenstein monster unlike any seen before.

“Doc Frankenstein,” says the editor Spencer Lamm in an interview at www.Newsarama.com, “is a reinvention of the Frankenstein monster that plays with the idea: what if the monster had survived through the ages to today? What people sometimes forget is that the monster himself was never an idiot in the novel. So, in the comics, we see that he has lived for a couple of centuries, has an incredible intellect, and has done pretty well for himself. He has money, political influence, and a lot of things people don’t normally consider when they think of Frankenstein’s monster. That’s the monster being introduced here.”

“It’s very, very contemporary in its political jabs,” Lamm says of the book. “It’s fantasy in the sense that the Frankenstein monster wields influence in our world, but with respect to the rest…well, the President in the story may appear familiar. Politics are an intensely dangerous conversation to have with anybody. You never know where anyone’s political stance falls, you never know anyone’s religious stance, but we’re definitely taking a stance in Doc Frankenstein.”

Available bi-monthly, DOC FRANKENSTEIN has a recommended retail price of US $3.50 and features 32 pages of full color. Issue #2 and the second printing of issue #1 with new cover art arrives simultaneously in shops early February. Books printed in USA (Imagine Print Group).
