Todd McFarlane, the creator of “Spawn,” is teaming up with AngryFilms on “Twisted Tales,” a half-hour anthology series in development for FOX. Todd McFarlane Entertainment and Angry Films (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) will produce the series along with Fox TV Studios’ alternative division.

“There is nothing on television that is scary or creepy enough for me, week in and week out,” McFarlane says. “It is my hope to be able to deliver a series that will keep the audience consistently off-balance and frightened.”

McFarlane will serves as the “Twisted Tales” host, introducing every episode from what a statement describes as “a basement environment.” Every episode will delve into one tale from the realms of sci fi, horror and fantasy. McFarlane will also executive produce with Terry Fitzgerald, Rick Benattar, Susan Montford and Don Murphy.

“Other series went to the easier fit idea of multiple stories in an hour, and inevitably one of the stories was bad,” Murphy said. “Here it’s one story, one episode, bang — we gotcha.”

Beyond the wildly successful “Spawn” comic book, film and television franchise, the McFarlane Group of Companies is the fifth largest manufacturer of action figures in the United States and has produced long-form properties including the feature film “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.”
