No Charges To Be Laid Against Paris Hilton For Newsstand Incident

Hotel heiress/reality TV star Paris Hilton won’t be charged in a dustup at a West Hollywood newsstand in which she was accused of stealing a copy of her sex tape.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office cited a lack of evidence in opting not to pursue the case, despite surveillance video from the newsstand that appeared to show the “Simple Life” star reaching over a counter and grabbing something, then walking away.

“The evidence presented is not of such convincing force that a reasonable and objective jury would unanimously agree that the suspect is guilty,” Irene Wakabayashi of the D.A.’s office tells the AP.

The incident happened Dec. 15, when Hilton stopped by Swing News in West Hollywood. Employee Gerry Castro told the syndicated show “Celebrity Justice” that he chatted amiably and took a picture with her until she saw that the newsstand was selling copies of her infamous sex video, “One Night in Paris.”

Castro said she then grabbed a copy of the DVD, tossed 80 cents at him and left, saying “I’m taking this and I’m not buying it.” “Celebrity Justice” showed the surveillance video, which showed Hilton reaching over the counter but not much else.
