The Simpsons, Sundays at 8:00 on Fox.

“Pranksta Rap”

The gist of it: 50 Cent guest voices as himself as Bart fakes his own kidnapping (and ends up hiding out with Milhouse’s father) to hide the fact that he snuck out of the house to go to a 50 Cent concert

Favorite Moments-

Act one: Sitcom Sunday, “The Salad of the Christ”, “Alcatrazz is widespread”, Bart: You like the Blues, Lisa: But the blues are unpopular”, “I love you too Jerry”, Homer’s fatherly advice: “Son, your mother makes a very loud point”, Hearing Bart say “Hey man, this ride is pimped out”, Fifty Cent: “The more you know, the more you grow” and, “Homer: If Bart ran away, he’s going to be N.W.A.: Not without asswelts. End of act one.

Act two: Kent Brockman: “Mrs. Simpson, is the pain so unbearable, you wish your son was never born?”, Kirk Van Houten, soybean scarecrow, Barney Fife’s talk with Wig gum (Fife:”Now I must gooooooooooo”), Wiggum:We’re putting you in a dirty little cell. It’s not as dirty or little as this apartment”, and Lou: Worried in West Springfield,

Act three: “Women love, famous felons”, “I love the way I curdled you”, THE RETURN OF EL BARTO!!, a tapestry of deceit, “Thursday the 20th” jewelry, “Love the lie”, Alcatrazz and his wisdom, and hip hop Chalmers.

What Flat Out Sucked- It was awkward at first seeing the Simpsons speak hip-hop, bit became endearing very quickly. Not much to complain about this fun, entertaining episode.

Personal Thoughts- During the weekend, over in the IP forums, I discussed at length with some of the forumers whether or not the show has jumped the shark. I say nay, others say yay. They should watch episodes like this, and I think they’d change their mind. I adored this episode. What I enjoyed most, was the depth some of the supporting characters were given. Wiggum trying to prove his self worth was a great subplot, as was Kirk getting arrested. And Seymour Skinner not being sure whether or not he should help Bart was an intriguing plot-twist. It’s been done, but not in this way.

Most Valuable Character- Officer Lou, a highly underrated supporting character, who has had his fair share of witty repartee with the moronic Chief Wiggum. The more serious he’s written, the funnier it is.

I was going to do a top three rap moments, but f*ck it. It’s all about the Bartman. The first thing I thought of when I heard 50 Cent was going to be on, was whether or not they’d do the Bartman. Remember that? Man it seems so long ago. I used to know all the moves. And didn’t Michael Jackson produce it? Anything that involves ten year old boys, I suppose.

Next week, is the much-talked about gay marriage episode of the show. I’m as curious as everyone else to see what they’ll do. Be back next week, to see what I think. Till then, I’d like you to answer the following question:

Has the show jumped the shark? Do you think it’s still funny? If you don’t watch it anymore, when did you stop, and if you do still watch it, what would it take for you to stop? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
