Lloyd Grove of the NY Daily News printed this in the “Briefing” section of his “Lowdown” column today:
SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING? IT’S CROW!
Wrestler – turned – movie star Dwayne Johnson – better known as The Rock – is upset that Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment Corp. let his contract expire without a peep. “I wasn’t contacted or anything like that,” The Rock complained to Daily News contributor Jawn Murray during the press junket for the movie “Be Cool,” in which The Rock plays a gay aspiring actor. “It wasn’t until my own team had basically congratulated me – ‘Oh my God, what a wonderful career you’ve had. Congratulations!’ – that [I realized it],” he continued. “I wish it would have went down a bit differently, and that part I am sad about….”It was never brought up, basically. I was over in Prauge filming. It hit me like a ton of bricks.”
A WWE rep told me the contract was mistakenly allowed to end. “Somebody dropped the ball, and everybody, including Vince, has apologized to The Rock.” McMahon, the rep added, plans to fix the situation at the earliest opportunity.
Take this for what you will, but it sounds as if WWE has no intention of just letting The Rock go.
