For the first time every, Fox won a sweeps month. Conversely, NBC finished fourth in a sweeps month for the first time.
Fox doubled its victory by winning the coveted 18-49 demographic as well.
February marks the first sweeps victory for Fox since it began broadcasting in 1987. Without the Super Bowl, the network would have finished behind ABC and CBS. However, the network also used high-rated shows such as American Idol and House to propel itself to first.
The same cannot be said of NBC. NBC’s viewership in February was down 15 percent compared to February 2004, Nielsen said.
Last week alone, NBC only had two shows, ER and Law and Order, make the top 15 in terms of ratings.
NBC said the competition is closer than this month’s ratings make it appear. Take away events like the Super Bowl, Grammys and Academy Awards from its competitors, and NBC would finish second among total viewers, the network said.
