WWE 24/7–TM– March SVOD Slate Highlights Key WrestleMania–R– Moments Leading Up to WrestleMania 21 in April
STAMFORD, Conn., Mar 07, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) — WWE 24/7, World Wrestling Entertainment(R)’s (NYSE: WWE) subscription video-on-demand service that features highly-rated content from four decades of WWE(R) and other acquired national and regional wrestling brands, is making its marquee live and pay-per-view event and pop culture extravaganza, WrestleMania, the centerpiece of its March 2005 programming slate, just in time for WrestleMania 21 on April 3, from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.
“WrestleMania is an event of unequaled importance to our company, our fans and the cable-operators who benefit annually from the continued success of this traditional pay-per-view champion,” said Tom Barreca, Senior Vice President, WWE Enterprises. “March’s WrestleMania-focus provides a one-two punch: helping operators prime their subscribers for sales of WrestleMania 21 and WWE 24/7. Plus, it gets our fans and subscribers in a celebratory mindset that builds through March for the April event.”
WWE 24/7 makes approximately 20 hours of content available anytime per month – refreshing four to five new hours per week on average – on leading systems and providers including Cox Communications, Blue Ridge Communications and RCN.
In March, WWE will make available some of the company’s best and most popular content centered around its annual blockbuster, WrestleMania. This will include reprises of WrestleManias III, IV, X and 13, featuring an incomparable line-up of some of WWE’s greatest Superstars, such as Andre the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Stone Cold Steve Austin. One March special, WrestleMania’s Greatest Hits and Matches, counts-down the top ten matches of all-time. Another, WrestleMania Recall hosted by Gene Okerlund, is a retrospective of some of the most memorable highlights over the event’s 20-year history.
WWE 24/7’s March 2005 line-up is packaged and available to VOD-enabled consumers under several menu categories, including:
— The Big Ones – The entry point to on-demand access to WWE’s biggest-ever PPV events, such as WrestleManias III, IV, X and 13;
— Specials – Monthly Specials include some of WWE’s most highly-rated and best-selling video/DVD product and original productions. The March roster serves up WrestleMania’s Greatest Hits and Matches and WrestleMania Recall;
— WWE Hall of Fame – WWE 24/7’s Hall of Fame category welcomes one great former Superstar to host a chronicle of his career each month. In March, the focus is legendary manager and WrestleMania lightning rod, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Heenan hosts content that provides a 12-hour rewind on his career, from mid-1970’s matches as a wrestler in the now-defunct AWA(R) to his 2004 Hall of Fame enshrinement at WrestleMania XX.
— Buried Treasures – This month’s look at one-of-a-kind or never-before-seen content features four half-hour episodes of the rarely seen and hilarious Bobby Heenan Show;
— Old School & Primetime – We look at several classic standards in March, tracking Tuesday Night Titans and televised events from Madison Square Garden to establish storylines that led to great WrestleManias from the 1980’s and early-1990’s.
