Same Ole' Story: American Idol Tops Tuesday Ratings

The final semi-final of American Idol scored another major ratings victory for FOX Tuesday night. On ABC, the new drama “Blind Justice” had a respectable debut.

Overall, FOX averaged a 12.9 rating/19 share, ahead of second place CBS’ 7.2/11. ABC was third with a 6.4/10, edging NBC at 6.0/9. The WB’s 2.7/4 placed it fifth, leaving UPN to bring up the rear at 1.5/2.

At 8 p.m., FOX’s “American Idol” got a 15.7/24, continuing this season’s trend of high ratings for the show. CBS was well behind in second with a 7.7/12 for “NCIS.” ABC’s “My Wife and Kids” placed third, besting the 3.6/5 for The WB’s “Gilmore Girls.” NBC’s two episodes of “Will & Grace” could do no better than fifth.

“House” was a repeat, but viewers responded anyway as the episode neared series highs with a 10.1/15 to give the 9 p.m. hour to FOX as well. CBS remained in second with the 7.1/11 for “The Amazing Race.” ABC’s two episodes of “According to Jim” managed a 6.4/10 for third. NBC came storming back to win in the 10 p.m. hour with a 10.1/17 for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” On ABC, “Blind Justice” had an 8.1/13, better numbers than NYPD Blue did at the same time. CBS brought up the rear with “Judging Amy.”
