CBS Dominates Thursday's Ratings

CBS romped to an easy ratings win Thursday night while NBC’s “The Contender” continued its early struggles.

On the night, CBS managed a 15.3 rating/24 share, more than doubling second-place NBC at 7.1/11. ABC was third at 4.2/7, followed by FOX at 3.8/6; UPN, 3.2/5, and The WB, 1.1/2.

“Survivor: Palau” began CBS’s night with a 12.6/20. NBC took a distant second with repeats of “Joey” and “Will & Grace” for a 6.0/9, while “The O.C.,” helped by the premiere of the “Star Wars: Episode III” trailer, put FOX in third with a 5.1/8. A repeat of “Extreme Makeover” was fourth for ABC, besting the first half of “WWE Smackdown!,” 2.9/4, on UPN.

At 9 p.m., “CSI” got the night’s biggest audience with an 18.1/27. “The Apprentice” scored a 9.3/14 to keep NBC in second. A second hour of “Extreme Makeover,” 3.5/5, was third for ABC, while “Smackdown!” moved UPN up to fourth with a 3.4/5. FOX’s “Point Pleasant” was an abysmal fifth.

“Without a Trace” maintained the lead for CBS at 10 p.m. with a 15.1/25. “The Contender” was well behind, scoring only a 5.9/10 for NBC, while ABC’s “Primetime Live” was third at 5.2/9.
