CBS Takes Narrow Friday Ratings Win

In a battle of new shows between “Numb3ers” and “Trial By Jury”, CBS’ product came out ahead and gave it a ratings victory Friday night.

For the night, CBS averaged a 7.0 rating/12 share, just defeating NBC’s 6.8/12. ABC was third at 4.7/8, followed by FOX at 3.2/6. The WB’s 1.8/3 was enough for fifth. UPN finished up with a 1.4/2.

A repeat of “NCIS,” 6.4/11, gave CBS the early lead at 8 p.m. “Dateline,” 5.7/10, was enough for second for NBC. Back-to-back episodes of “8 Simple Rules” on ABC averaged 4.4/8, ahead of the 3.6/6 for two episodes of “The Bernie Mac Show” on FOX. Reruns of “What I Like About You” on The WB came in fifth, ahed of “Star Trek: Enterprise” on UPN.

NBC made its move at 9 p.m. with “Law & Order: SVU,” at 7.3/13. “JAG” held on for second at 6.8/11 for CBS. ABC remained in third with “Hope & Faith,” 4.4/8, and “Less Than Perfect,” 3.6/6. FOX offered two reruns of “That ’70s Show” and stayed in fourth. Repeats of “Reba,” 2.1/4, and “Blue Collar TV,” 1.9/3, kept The WB in fifth.

At 10 p.m., the 7.6/14 for “Numb3rs” just beat the 7.4/13 for “Trial by Jury,” which was significantly down from the same time last year. ABC’s “20/20” kept third place at 5.7/10.
