CBS Unleashes Shark Attack on Rivals

A “Spring Break Shark Attack” devoured the competition and delivered a ratings victory to CBS Sunday night

Overall, CBS averaged a 9.3 rating/15 share, miles ahead of ABC’s 7.2/11. NBC was a close third with a 6.5/10. with FOX getting a disappointing 3.4/5. The WB was last with a 1.4/2.

At 7 p.m., CBS started things off well with a 9.5/16 for “60 Minutes.” NBC was second with the 5.7/10 for “Dateline.” ABC’s old standard “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” was third. FOX got a 3.0/5 average from episodes of “King of the Hill” and “Malcolm in the Middle.” The WB’s “Charmed” finished fifth.

“Cold Case” kept the momentum for CBS with a 11.4/18. ABC did well with a second with a rerun of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” NBC’s “The Contender,” didn’t get high numbers at 4.6/7, but it did attract a good audience in the 18-49 demographic. FOX was fourth with episodes of “The Simpsons” (5.1/8) and “Arrested Development” (3.5/5). The WB’s second hour of “Charmed” remained in fifth.

ABC and CBS tied for the 9 p.m. lead as a rerun of “Desperate Housewives” and the first hour of “Spring Break Shark Attack” scored an 8.7/13. NBC was a very close third with a 8.0/12 for “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” FOX was fourth with a repeat of “The Simpsons” and “Kelsey Grammer Presents: The Sketch Show,” while WB stayed in last with a 1.4/2 for “Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge.”

“Boston Legal” gave ABC the lead at 10 p.m. with a 7.7/13. NBC was a distant second with the 7.6/13 for “Crossing Jordan.” The conclusion of “Spring Break Shark Attack” was right behind
