Paul W.S Anderson (Alien vs. Predator) has been hired to direct Paramount’s Death Race 3000, a modern remake of the action classic Death Race 2000, according to Variety.
Anderson will also produce the film with Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.
“The original was so much about decimating pedestrians that the actual race was almost irrelevant, and I want to restore that,” Anderson said. “Set in 2020, ours is an ultraviolent, no-holds-barred race with heavily armed Escalades, Ferraris and Aston Martins”, says Anderson, currently writing a third Resident Evil film.
No word on whether Cruise is going to star, which has been a rumor for years, or whether original co-star Sly Stallone will be back – which was also thrown around for some time.
