Some of you may have been wondering why WWE has recently gone back to referring to Hollywood Hogan as Hulk Hogan in recent promos since there had been many legal issues between Hogan and Marvel and WWE and Marvel over the name.
It seems that Marvel sold the rights of the name to Hogan himself. According to court documents dated February 1 of this year, Marvel and Hogan entered into an agreement where “all right, title and interest and associated goodwill” of the name “Hulk Hogan” would go to Hogan himself. This may or may not have to do with the trademark infringement suit from Marvel against Hogan, that was dismissed last fall.
WWE then learned of the agreement between Hogan and Marvel on February 25 and asked the judge in the suit between Marvel and WWE to dismiss the suit due to the fact that Marvel no longer held claim to the “Hulk Hogan” name. A conference between WWE and Marvel parties was to have taken place on March 18, but the case of who owns the name is settled and WWE can now refer to Hogan as Hulk Hogan once again.
