The Maui County Council has given preliminary approval to a bill granting O.W. Ranch LLC a five-year permit to build and operate a 12-bedroom vacation rental in Kula.
Tom Welch, attorney for O.W. Ranch, could not confirm whether or not the host was personally involved in the negotiations.
Gideon Kaufman, an Aspen, Colo.-based legal representative for Winfrey gave a little more insight on the situation: “I’ll let the initials stand for themselves.”
