Update on X-3

IGN FilmForce have confirmed that Dark Phoenix (Famke Janssen) will indeed be the villain of the next X-Men film.

Dark Phoenix will be the new alter ego of Jean Grey, who had the power to destroy the entire Universe in the comic books. But in the end, good triumphed and she destroyed herself to prevent that from happening. While she’ll be the main villain, she won’t be the only focus of the film.

Rumors that ‘The Sentinels’ would be the villain-to-pop in the second sequel have seemingly fallen flat. They won’t be seen this time around either. X-Men 3 will, in addition to the ‘Dark Phoenix’ yarn, largely concentrate on Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) continuing growth as a vital member of the X-Men.

Also, Avi Arad helped Empire Online clear up some of the other rumours about the super sequel.

On Angel being a girl: “It won’t be a female Angel,” Arad told the site. “I don’t know where that came from. Maybe it’s because he looks angelic.”

On the debut of Gambit and Beast: “[There are] interesting characters that will be introduced. It just has to move forward”, he said. “Obviously, we have Wolverine and Magneto, Professor X, Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Rogue, all these characters. But then you need to freshen up the story and make it new”.

Finally, James Marsden, who has a role in Superman, will apparently be back, but his character, Cyclops, will be spending most of the pic on the sidelines.
