R.I.P.’s

Damn what a sad week.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Johnnie Cochran, who most of you will remember from The Trial of the Century. Unfortunately he won’t be remembered for all of his work in the field of Civil Rights or for freeing a man who was wrongfully imprisoned for 27 years. He was a man who did some great things and he will be missed.

I was also shocked to find out that Mitch Hedberg had also passed. This dude was hilarious. I caught his stand up on Comedy Central a few years back and was slayed. I had since seen him on late night talks shows and he never disappointed. Apparently he was on the cusp of becoming “big time”, which makes losing him even sadder.

In terms of less heavy passings the Arizona Wildcats gave up a 15 point lead to get eliminated from the NCAA tourney. It instantly gave me flashback to my traumatic childhood. The Wildcats choking are responsible for most of my traumatic childhood memories. Wildcats giving up a 15 point lead to lose the game? Those’re my ‘Cats!

Let’s move on to happier things.

What I Watched Last Week

Deadwood – This show is so painful to watch. Al’s problems passing the stone were excruciating to watch. Oh my god, I was wincing. I dig how Mrs. Garrett’s in on the plan of what the future of the camps going to be. This show is so complex and full of cursing. Entertainment at it’s peak.

Carnivale – What a finale! It so lived up the build up. It made the first season make sense! It was so dramatic. I really hope that wasn’t the end of Jonesy. Brother Justin was no joke, and Ben lucked out with the win. I also really hope that this isn’t the end of the show.

The Simpsons – Unfortunately I was on the phone (long distance) while the show was on. Technically I “watched” it, but I heard nary a word.

Arrested Development – Ditto.

Law & Order: Trial By Jury – Personally I didn’t think that the judge was terribly wrong this episode. I think that his heart was in the right place. I also think that the closing statement did go too far. She should have been held in contempt. She really brought the judgment on herself.

And it’s not like that nanny is going to kill again.

Scrubs – I actually missed the episode when J.D.’s pop died, so it was nice to get a chance to watch it. And it was a really good episode. The second episode was equally powerful. It’s funny but with a heart. Scrubs doesn’t get enough attention from NBC.

The Office – I finally caught it, and it was so worth it. “Tolerance” is funny! I think that taboo subjects are always funny. That said, I think this show is much too delicate for American audiences, who don’t respond well to subtle. There aren’t enough pratfalls or fart jokes. Still I think this show is hilarious.

24 – Poor Behrooz. He’s having a rough day. First he was supposed to kill his girlfriend, then his pop sent him up to be killed. Then he had to kill his pop. Now he finds out that his mom is dead. He’s having about the roughest day since Jack in “Day One.”

Why is the updated getting pushed to the side? Someone needs to get that update! And what’s up with the Stealth Bomber?

Desperate Housewives – This show still sucks. My roommate still like it though. The lice story seemed almost interesting this week.

The Shield – This show still has Shane acting more like Vic than Vic. It’s getting frustrating. Are the writers ever going to address Julian’s sexuality again? I know there was a huge deal with gays and marriage, but I think that Julian’s case is different.

I did miss Aceveda this week. But Vic is boring. I do hope that Dutch’s going behind Claudette’s back will come back to bite him though. I hope this show regains it’s magic and soon.

Greatest Show Ever”¦this week – Ed

This was a great week for Ed; the break up of Carol and Dennis (at their wedding no less) and a pop-locking Dr. Mike Burton. We also got to see Carol reach her breaking point and young Warren Cheswick on the verge of losing his virginity. Ed and his brother have a rough heart to heart and Eli confronts a fear. What a killer week.

That said, I probably shouldn’t watching Ed plotting to break up a wedding with the help of a horse named Crazy Jimmy, not only because he’s my role model (who happens to be a lawyer) but also because the girl who currently possesses the key to my heart has upcoming nuptials”¦with her fiancé no less, and I’m a “life imitating art” type of guy.

Really Who Cares?

Last week I posed the following scenario;

Good News; you’ve got a hot date. Bad News; you’re just finishing work. Maybe you do day labor. Maybe you’ve got a “good job” but forgot to put on deodorant this morning. Maybe you’ve just got a bad case of B.O. The point is; you stink. But remember to good news; your date is hot! Bad News; you’re stuck on an HBO Original Drama, set in the past.

So for the sake of hygiene purposes which show would you rather be on; Carnivale or Deadwood?

I had slim pickins for replies. Now maybe it was the whole “holiday weekend.” Let’s pretend it is. It better be better next week.

Fortunately Colin managed to drop in and send me my sole reply. He also managed to make lemonade out of lemons.

Deadwood. Can’t beat a good western. Sadly though, I’ve seen neither of these shows. I have mulled buying the first season of Deadwood, something I can’t say about Carnivale. I don’t know about the locale/time-period, but if Val Kilmer could one day be on the show as Doc Holliday I’d be there in a second. The man needs work.

I love Deadwood. But as a celibate guy who doesn’t drink or gamble I can’t see how Las Vegas Deadwood would be a good fit for me. However, I don’t mind being the center of attention and I don’t like being tied down, so I think Carnivale would be the place for me. Plus, in terms of hygiene Carnivale is decades beyond Deadwood.

Of course this leads us logically to”¦

Good News/Bad News/Question of the Week

Good News; you get to go on vacation! Maybe it’s part of your recent promotion at work. Maybe it’s part of a severance package, who knows. Bad News; you’ve got to cross a huge body of water. That means tighter security, passport photos, and possibly cavity searches. Good News; your vacation is very relaxing. Bad News; you end up stranded on a island. Maybe you went on a tour, a three-hour tour. Maybe your plane crashed on your way back from Australia. I don’t know. The point is you’re stuck on an island for the foreseeable future.

So would you rather be stranded on Gilligan’s Island (Gilligan’s Island or the island on Lost?

Greatest Video Ever”¦this week

Beanie Sigel – Feel It In The Air

This video has an eerie look to it. It’s haunting and foreboding. Beanie can tell something’s going down, but he’s not sure what it is. We get flashbacks as to what lead up to this feeling. We also see a tactical police squad preparing to swarm the house. The song is dope and the video matches it perfectly. But what makes this video truly great is the lesson; never trust Method Man.
