[WWE] Draft Lottery Update

Archive

There have been varying reports on WWE Creative’s plan to do a Draft Lottery this year. As you’ll remember, during last year’s lottery, six RAW superstars switched over to SD, and vice versa, following which, Vince McMahon set a trading deadline so the two GMs could make final tweaks before it all … began again. With a “supershow” coming up on April 18 at WWE’s unofficial home arena, Madison Square Garden in NYC, featuring both RAW and Smackdown tapings, most are speculating that the lottery will happen at that time. This would hopefully help WWE side-step problems they reportedly had last year, such as some talent hearing about the draft later than others, and superstars drafted from RAW and SD not having a chance to say proper goodbyes, and feeling all-around out of the loop (since WWE didn’t want the moves to leak, most wrestlers weren’t told if they’d be switching brands beforehand).

As of the time of this post, there are different reports coming out of the many Internet wrestling sites.

Wade Keller at PWTorch.com:

The Draft Lottery is something WWE definitely wants to do. From talking to people about it in WWE today, the word is that the date is not definite. Vince McMahon has had so much on his plate with the recovery from the double quad surgery and WrestleMania that the final plans have not been set it in stone. There are a lot of ideas on how to do it, and the goal is to do it a “big way” this year so that it seems like a “destination program” each year. The decision could be made within the next few days to do it at the double-roster MSG show on Apr. 18. A lot of people have chipped in ideas the past month or two on how to present it this year, and it’s definitely a priority creatively now that WM has taken place.

Dave Scherer at PWInsider.com:

I haven’t heard any firm update on when WWE will do the draft, other than it’s still supposed to be in the plans.
